R I P Terry Callier

Very sad news indeed. He was a truly majestic singer and song writer who produced beautiful songs that were positive and uplifting and he straddled many music genres.
He reminded me very much of how Cat Stevens approached singing and the message that music could bring, a sad day for music indeed.
Cheers.
I was hopeful of catching another of his concerts sometime.
That is a real shame.
Shite! Magisterial singer. RIP.

Kevin, do you mean "shit".
Magisterial is not the correct word either...its too authoritarian.
Cheers.

What a mean-spirited post.
No I meant shite because this forum keeps putting asterisks in certain swear words. I hate that. I didn't know you could write "shit".
Also I used "magisterial" in the (correct) sense of "commanding" or "authoritative" - which, as a singer and live performer, Callier was. He may have been a modest, unassuming person but on a stage he was electric, with a huge presence.
I'm a writer. Please do not tell me how to use my language.
Not really the time or place to nitpick, is it? Got nothing better to do?

If you are a writer then show your profession some respect and please don’t attempt to elicit a negative response from fellow Forum members with your words, especially in an RIP thread.
Cheers.

Meethinks a misunderstanding on both counts here.
Kevin was merely exclaiming his disappointment at the loss of a powerful singer. Not doing him down at all by my reading. G

I was indeed expressing my extreme disappointment at the loss of a great singer/songwriter Graeme.
Thank you.

Given that you used an RIP thread to make a pointless and ill-advised attempt to correct my vocabulary in a rather patronising manner, I find your high moral tone rather odd.

Kevin,
Given that you used an RIP thread to elicit a negative response by using the word "shite" immediately after my post and proceeded to spit venom at me after I queried it (in a rather benign manner I would add), would suggest otherwise. Your thread and tone is clear.
Please stop wasting my time and find someone else to irritate.
Cheers.

I suppose it would be asking too much that you be man enough to at least acknowledge that you misread my original post (as GraemeH pointed out), or are you really as self-satisfied as the person in your avatar suggests?
Possibly, so I will leave you to stew away atop the moral high ground you seem to think you occupy, while I get on with some work.
RIP TC. x
now, now wars have started over less. Kiss and make up peoples!
Joking aside, the last time I got in strife on here I got accused of being a troll.
RIP, TC.

Actually Kevin, you are right. I have misunderstood your post, many apologies for that.
I thought your post was a mischevous reference to my previous post....I take it all back, the emotions got in the way of rational thinking there. But I wish you had explained it to me properly before, as I thought your spitting responce was a provocation... I did not want to take the moral ground.
It's amazing what an evening meal and a nice mug of tea can do to the put things straight in ones head... and of course TerryCalliers Time Peace playing in the background.
Anyway, I hope you accept my apology and let's hope it has not ruined the thread for everyone ☺
Jason.
RIP Terry.
Graham.
Interesting to see that this thread has been conducted to current Naim Forum standard. Egos of contributors much more important than the thread - which could have been regarded by some folk, back on planet Earth, as serious and sad.

Both of you - of to your rooms without your Hi-Caps until you can play nice!
Glad to be of assistance.....G

Hi Jason
Apology accepted, and most appreciated. Thank you.
I owe you one as well - the remark about the avatar was out of order and way too personal. So apologies for that.
All the best

RIP Terry Callier. Very sad news. Too young as well.
Never understood why he was not more popular in general - maybe a time and place thing. Incredible live performer who was surrounded by a talented band. He seemed v. happy in London which he said was a home-from-home due to all the support here. Saw him many times at the Jazz Cafe where he always generated an electric atmosphere in the small venue. Always engaging with people in the crowd who had great fun forever requesting all their personal favourites between tracks whilst he was on stage. Getting all over-excited with the first bars of the next song and then fall into a bewitched hush as he played. This was always fun as he had that unique skill of making everyone feel good - like he was performing just for them.
Also saw him supporting Massive Attack at Westonbirt Arboretum where he collapsed on stage - guess the poor old guy had health issues for a while.
Lazarus Man and Dancing Girl are two of my favourites from a fantastic body of work.
so each of us is born alone
what a welcome to the twilight zone

I saw him many times at the JC too - always a sell-out, enthusiastic crowd. Also saw him a couple of times in Brighton - same story. He was never a megastar but was always guaranteed a good turnout among his loyal following - who I might add, were/are among the friendliest and most knowledgeable fans one could ever wish to meet.
Very sad news! God bless his family and R.I.P. Terry. I am so happy you got some recognition in your later years. Too bad you did not get it while you were around ChiTown in the 70's. Thanks for all the wonderful music. Still have my original "What Color Is Love" purchased around '75. "Lookin' Out" is another favorite.
