Eberhard Watches

Any good?
I'm sure there is watch related expertise here in this place aplenty.

I have searched, but the hoopless system seems to let me search for Eberhard (brings up musician(s)) or watches, which brings up loads of irrelevant stuff.

In essence, I am tempted by an Eberhard Traversetolo Chrono. Brand new, for sale at €1350, instead - they claim - of €3360.

Anyone have any advice/knowledge of Eberhard? Will have to purchase on the basis of photographs (all guaranteed though), and quickly.

I normally wear a Rolex GMT Master II, which I love, but have been hankering after a chrono (with a red face) for a while, and this Eberhard fits the bill perfectly, although is a lot of money.

Advice gratefully received!

Cheers

Prices for the chrono range from 2000 dollars to 4500 dollars depending which version

Thanks for the links Paul.

On the basis of what is for sale at chrono24.com, this seems like a veritable bargain.

The price I have been quoted is direct from the manufacturer, via a 'groupon' type site in France (Vente privée).

There is nothing 'dodgy' about it - in the sense that I have bought branded goods through them previously - although nothing in this price range - and the service, guarantees etc have all been excellent.

The problem is that it would be purchase only on the basis of photographs, which for a watch seems slightly questionable since everything is so personal, hence the question.

I don't think I will have time to go search out a dealer and try one on, before the sale runs out or the stock is exhausted.

And besides, just as with hi-fi, this would hardly be fair on any such dealer. I take the bargain, I put up with the results I guess. So I'm wondering if anyone here has ever owned or even tried one.

I am confident enough in the photographs to know I like the looks of it and the measurements to know that the size 'fits', but even if it's half its usual price, it's still an expensive timepiece, so if anyone has any thoughts I'd be grateful to hear them!

Cheers

For what it's worth, in terms of decision making, I would try and seperate the head from the heart.

It sounds like you have confidence in the supplier, so no issue there.

It appears you are happy with the manufactures, so that's ok.

You have decided you like the look and the size/ function of the model so that's another tick

You are ok with the price.

It appears to me that the only remaining point is the feel / comfort of the watch, which can probably only be established by trying it.

I know I have sough after watches before, yet when they are actually on the wrist, something sometime is not quite right.

I do like to collect watches and have collected 10 to date that I use in rotation, but For example I have a Maurice lacroix watch which is great in every way but the crystal back irritates me if I wear it for any long times.

I guess you have to make a risk call on this and decide whether to take a chance.

It sounds like a good deal to the extent that if unhappy you could probably sell it on again with no great loss

Good luck which ever way to go

So Rod, did you take the plunge and purchase the said item?

Not yet Paul. Still haven't found anyone willing to endorse (or not) Eberhard.

I did book a trip to New York yesterday which is going to prove expensive, so still umm-ing and ah-ing...

Thanks for the advice!
