How do you use your hifi?

Posted by: Cbr600 on 10 November 2012

Thought I might use this thread to ask all Naimee's what there particularly story is, about how they enjoy their HiFi.

I am not looking for comments on choices of albums, or their hardware!

Simply, I enjoy coming home from work each evening and sitting, listening to music and letting the days YUK wash away from me for an hour. Allowing me to tune out from the outside world.

I also love the routine of listening to the music saturday morning for a few hours while trawling through the papers with some nice coffee.

What way do you "use" your hifi ---- if you know what I mean.

(keep it clean)

Not as often as I wish but as often as possible,

Hi Paul,

I use my system in various ways: The moment I am home, the system is on. My music is always on apart from the moments my son watches tv. Normally when I am houskeeping, working or doing other stuff at home, I use the Naim for background music. Mostly Jazz or Folk; sometimes iRadio. During the evenings, I turn up the volume a bit, grab a book or iPad, and read while listening. In this case I choose a specific set of Albums, I want to listen to. A few times a week, during the evenings, I spend an hour or two on intense listening, sitting in the sweet spot, eyes closed and really enjoying. Other recurring moments, are the Sunday mornings: get up early and play Classic, Opera or Lounge at a louder volume, reading the weekend newspaper en enjoying coffee.

My music is my hobby and enjoy it al lot, including everything surrounding it: the Hifi system, nStream and all the MetaData, and reading Album reviews on the web. I have a very stressfull job with a lot of pressure, and for me music makes me relax a bit.

Cheers,

Iver

Like you, Paul, I find a hour or so of listening in weekday evenings after a long, stressful day in the office a great way to relax. And a longer session on Sunday evenings sets me up for the week ahead rather well. Now and again I'll also try reading or browsing the web while the system is playing but it's performing so well at the moment I keep getting distracted by the music, which is a lovely distraction to have! So it's pretty much proper listening or nothing for me.  If I want background music I turn on a radio.

Since I am currently in an (really crummy) apartment, I have limited windows of time in which to listen...since I often don't get home from work until after 9:00 PM...and my setup is not optimized at all right now.  But I like listening to internet radio through my SBT into the DAC of my SN while doing other things (reading, web surfing, etc), and I also take the time to listen to specific tunes or albums on CD or from my laptop.

But I yearn for the day when I can get a better place and set up the whole system and really enjoy it in a more dedicated manner...

If their is crap on television(which is most of the time now) then i prefer to play some music and read a book. We are lucky that our lounge is on a different floor to the dining room etc so her indoors can watch tv etc and we dont disturb each other. Off to the Library now(Arsenal) so no noise pls.

Iver, I have seen some of your previous posts about listening while doing  house work. This might have prompted me to post this thread?

It certainly sounds like you are totally engrossed in music as a major part of your life. Must be a nice place to be ( especially when you have a good system).

Unfortunately I can't help seeing this image of you in a pinnie, with a feather duster ( no offence meant), but there you are.

Keep the faith

DrMark,

At least the positive is that the music ( and it's potential) gives you a future to focus on, with more pleasures to come!

I won second place (a free download -- not a free UnitiQute that went to the first-place winner) in Naim's Facebook contest a few months ago.  My story is on the Naim website and Facebook site, somewhere.

I still need to claim my download . . .

Lousy match by arteta. He should have been taken off. His peno miss lost the win, and his mistakes at other end gave away goals.
