nStream volume slider - warning!

Posted by: Evan Scheele on 10 November 2012

I just hit the volume slider on the iPhone version of nstream by mistake, sliding it to 100 without even realizing it - my finger somehow grazed it.  Blew out both woofers on my 6 month old Guru QM10 twos in the 3 seconds it took to turn it back down.  They're toast.  Who knows if I damaged the SuperUniti in the process.

The volume slider, especially on the iPhone version where it's at the bottom,  is a TERRIBLE design.  It never occurred to me that I could destroy a pair of $3000 speakers inadvertently. The irony is I never even use the damn volume slider feature on the app!

Extremely upset, especially since this wont be covered by my warranty and know have to buy new speakers.

i wish there were a way to disable theirs feature.

Watch your fingers so this doesn't happen to you.

Why not Evan? This is accidental damage. You might as well say that people who break cartridge cantilevers when cleaning the cartridges wouldn't get damage cover. It's no different. You should explore it with your insurance company.

I agree with Frank (I would do having suggested claiming!).

Knocking over a bottle of red wine or kicking a tin of paint over on to a carpet is 'stupidity' when viewed in hindsight but equally valid claims if you accidental cover.

People get new carpets if they spill wine on it so you might have some luck.

These are all good points, however it's moot as I've been in contact with Guru and they've been absolutely superb: they've arranged to have Whetstone Audio in Texas (the new US distributor, apparently) replace the damaged drivers. Guru is shipping the replacement parts to Whetstone free of charge - I'm only responsible for shipping and labor! What great customer service...hats off to Stefan and Erik at Guru! I really lucked out - very relieved! Thanks for all your good wishes and support through this debacle!
