My father died at Arnhem so this is all kinda close to me, but the fact is the longer the years are from the wars such as WW-I & II there are less people around that are that closely affected - & that is not taking anything away from the more recent conflicts - therefore we can only expect more of the disrespect around this. The shouting during the very short 1 minute silence at the Wales vs Argentina match was a typical of this, kids of today are too far removed, probably pissed & cannot relate or realise to how most others feel.
But serious & deliberate disrespect in all forms for something that is held sacred by others, no mater what, should not be tolerated. Burning poppies, Quran (koran) & national flags, defacing a memorial for metal theft, whatever, is an insult at least or an act of hatred at worse.
Problem is we live in free society that (in law) is supposed to be tolerant of all faiths so I fear its something we have to tolerate unless some aspects of the law (or lack of it) is changed.
Are you listening Messrs Cameron Clegg & Miliband.
To your point, I do feel the RBL is loosing some of its direction. I contribute regularly, take part with raffles, use & support my local RBL club events & buy poppies every year with a paper note & not loose change. But I do object to phone calls from them asking for an increase in my standing order & they do not always take no for an answer. The fact that I did not change it when I stopped working & became a pensioner seems to make little difference.
