Naim ND5 XS arrived today and some questions now...

Posted by: dan-r on 14 November 2012

My Naim ND5 XS came in today and it is now connected to my audio system. I installed Asset UPnP from illustrate ( same company makes dBpoweramp CD ripper ) .

Naim streamer found music collection stored on my Intel SSD quickly ))))

Also discovered that I was able to add Premium list of SkyFM stations in AAC 128k  ))

Is there a way to add SiriusXM satallite radio stations as right now I stream it though Sonos Connect preamp but be nicer to get it with vTuner.

How do I find out software version in my ND5 XS as 3.17 that is now available?  No mention of this in pdf manual of Naim ND5 XS.

Actually suprised that my music files sound better though this Naim streamer when it is connected to my Bel Canto Dac 1.5 with BNC digital out. Better bass, smoother highs than the previous Bryston BDP-1 digital player.

At the stereo shop where I work our display SuperUniti displays clock when display goes into standby. No clock in the NDX or ND5 XS?

Most likely just like the rest of Naim components sound quality will improve after running for month or 2.  Store Ndac did improve after breaking in.

Hi Dan,

nStream on your iPhone will tell you which software version your ND5XS is running.  On the Inputs screen you'll see a button at the top that says Setup.  In Setup, you'll see an About section which will tell you the Streamer Version.

Enjoy!

Thanks Bart

Found it on iphone, I have software version 3.09. Will have to borrow thinkpad laptop from work to install new software.

What can I expect from changes going from 3.09 to 3.17 ? any audio differences?

I think 3.17 was a definite improvement over 3.09 (despite the hassle with cables and downloads). Even my wife, who has no interest in audio, said "that really sounds better".

Hi Dan,

If you search this forum on software version 3.16 you'll quickly find the added things and why to update the firmware. There has been substantial conversation about it, here.

My experience with the sound quality of the ND5XS is very positive apart that it needs definately some running in time (up to 2 weeks). Interested whether after 2 weeks the BelCanto still performs better; I expect the differences will be very small than

Pretty sure there is no clock in the ND5XS

Cheers,

Iver
