Johnny Marr ,Could of been a footballer well i never knew that

It seems the Guitar hero of my youth could have been a proffesional footballer and what is more important with the mighty Nottingham Forest FC , This revelation ( to me anyway ) features in a book called the glory of Forest extract below,

The former Smiths guitarist is better known for his dexterous fingers than his fancy footwork, but the indie legend had trials with both Forest and his hometown club, Man City. He claims he could have gone all the way with his footballing career but ‘they didn’t follow up because I was probably the only player out there wearing eye-liner’.

Morrissey recorded a song called ‘Roy’s Keen’ inspired by a certain Irish midfielder, but other than that we have no reason to suspect that the effete crooner himself had any footballing ambitions.

Is anyone aware of any other musicians that could have taken the sporting path to glory ?

I think Rod Stewart had trials as well. Not sure for who though because despite his Scottish soul he was born in London.

Ian Gillan was supposed to have had trials with, possibly, Reading.

Since The Smiths are just about my favourite band ever I'm glad he didn't become a footballer.
