Qute : Limited connection please check network
Posted by: minnow on 18 November 2012
Ok, so, now, got it streaming, but for some reason I get a message saying limited connection please check network. I think this must be the reason I can't get the cute to stream internet radio and get an accurate time.
I have gone through my Airport Extreme as carefully as possible - nothing seems obvious.
Help please.
Have you tried a laptop in the same position, are you actually getting much of a signal.
there is a reason naim reccomend wired, wireless is crap!
Limited connection generally means that you don't have an internet connection but you do have a connection to your local network ... this would appear to be borne out by the fact that you can get UPnP (from your local network) but not internet radio.
Can I ask whether you have tried connecting the unit to your router directly via a wired connection as per my previous reply and if so, did the unit work correctly? If not can you *PLEASE* do so as this will enable us to narrow down the cause of your issues.
Cheers
Phil
Hi - sorry no not had a chance to do that - my quite is some rooms away from my extreme hence the wireless - I will try and give it ago - but what you say is beginning to make sense.
On another note - under network setting is the IP address unique for the qute? or is it/should it be for the router or modem? also do you know if it should be connecting using a DHCP or static? I wonder also if this is the reason why I cant get a full network connection and why I am having trouble getting it everything to talk to each other - eg Qute to the internet, and ipad and n-stream.
Each device on the network should have a unique IP address. The Qute while recommended to use a static IP will definitely work by using a DHCP assigned address.
I am using wireless and it works fine most of the time. Wired is always better but wireless will work. If your extreme is many rooms away that could be an issue as the signal will definitely be degraded.
If you can see and join your wireless network from the Qute then on your router check to see if there is a status of connected clients and how strong the signal is (some routers will show this some won't).
Hi there - thanks for everyone who read/contributed. In the end after much experimentation (and time wasting!) I discovered that the reason I could not get everything to connect was do with extreme settings - essentially I needed to tick 'share a public IP address' under the internet connection icon. This was then picked up automatically by the airport network preferences.
Simple really...as long as you know what your doing.....
Only issue now is getting the wifi to remain connected during dinner time when it seems to drop a lot....
Your dinner time problems are more likely to be related to the broadband connection being stressed by too much local demand from other users if it mainly affects internet radio. I get the same thing here - the joys of rural living,,,
I put it down to local kids finishing their homework and then hammering Facebook. It's usually not so bad during school holidays.
