'Crossfire Hurricane'

Anyone else catch part one of The Stones doc on BBC2 Saturday?

Great prog. Lots of previously unseen footage and info - to me anyway. I'm looking forward to part two.

Yes, I just managed to catch this although I missed the first 5 minutes or so.  Interesting to see the footage that was new to me.  Sad to see how the drugs gradually took hold of Brian Jones and destroyed his desire to create music.  Looking forward to seeing the second half.

+1.  Jones self-destruction was hard to watch, as was the Altamont footage.

But a lot of fun stuff as well!  I liked the format, with the band members telling their own story (or, as Charlie said, what little he can remember of it ).

The two hour long documentary was aired here in the US by HBO, ending with scenes from Scorsese's "Shine a Light" and with Mick saying "You can't be young forever".

I'm on 2nd chapter of Keith's book.  I don't get HBO here, I'm sure it'll be on DVD

Keith's book was a very good read. Enjoy the rest. Unlike most books of this type I didn't get bored after the early years. He has some great anecdotes even towards the end of the book.

I hope you continue to find the book interesting. It is a better written book than I had expected.

And in a later chapter you will find Mr Richard's method (recipe is taking it too far) for cooking sausages. Probably the most useful tip from the book.

Oh yes that is, excepting his advice that "if you are going to flick your old lady, make sure you look after her".

Fair point.

The Stones have confirmed that Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman will be joining them at the O2 arena. Assuming they are still up to snuff that would be one helluva gig.

Saw Mick Taylor a few years ago with John Mayall and he can still play well. I don't know about the old dog Bill Wyman though.

Mick Taylor's time is my favourite. I loved his fluid blues guitar.

Yep you can't beat the good old Forest National show from Brussels which shows how good the Stones were in that period. Best Rock 'n' Roll band in the world at that time.

I reckon Bill's more than up to the task Steve. He's continued to play in various bands hereabouts and by all accounts is pretty mustard.

Being a lifelong Stones fan (I used to see them back in the early sixties at the Crawdaddy Club in Richmond) I've got a fair few of their concerts on DVD/BluRay & the latter ones are a bit stale, but for this show I get the feeling they intend to go out with a real bang. Love to be there.

I guess your right Tony I saw him a few years back with the Rhythm Kings on the TV. Not a lot of people realise how old he actually is. He was in his late 20's when he joined the Stones and last month had his 76th birthday.

He's always been young at heart, especially with his choice of female partners. It goes to show that Groucho Marx was right when he said "Your only as old as the woman you feel".

I saw Mick Taylor with John Mayall  Just before he joined the Stones at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall 1969

Mick was/is a great blues guitarist. I read somewhere he always regretted leaving the Stones. A big mistake on his part as he disappeared after. His guitar work on the Mayall albums, especially Crusade, is wonderful.
