Keeping track of interesting threads

Posted by: Iver van de Zand on 22 November 2012

Hi forummembers,

I have a number of threads on the forum here that are really helpfull for me and that I want to re-read from time to time. Is there any way in this "Hoop.La" to mark them as favourite or bookmark ? I now keep the threads headlines in a small document, but this doesn't work very efficiently. I have about 12 threads that I want to keep an eye on. Of course there is the "Follow this topic" flag, but that doesn't do it for me if I want to search for a favourite thread where there hasn't been activity for a while.

Any suggestions are more than welcome !

Cheers,

Iver

Why not save threads as web page links or bookmarks

(Control + D on most browsers I think).

Yep, bookmarks with tags in browser. Do it for me.

Iver,

there's a permalink button that can take you to any specific reply on any post.  Just copy and paste the permalinks into a handy document - say "Forum favourites" - and you're done.  Not quite as handy as a bookmark function, but just as effective.

Hi Richard,

I do not understand. What is permalink, and where is the button? I currently just copy the url of the thread I like, and copy/paste it into a doc.

Cheers,

Iver

Yep, it is pretty well hidden isn't it? Thing is, I can remember seeing something, but b*&^ered if I can find it now!

Permalink button can be found in the top right corner of each post. By using that it possible to go directly to a specific post on the thread (to get the url of the post instead of the thread which sometimes is handy concerning the long threads).

Iver, Osprey's post covers it.

It was indeed "hidden". Things that appear on "mouse-over" but are otherwise completely invisible represent some of the very worst of web design. A website shouldn't be "Where's Wally?". The main Naim website is an egregious example of this type of poor design. Menus should appear with a click, then be "persistent" and only disappear by either clicking an alternate  or by pressing the "esc" key. "Mouse-over" appearance and disappearance is incredibly frustrating for users, but is becoming depressingly common.

Windows 8 cover page is particularly ludicrous in the regard, with stuff randomly appearing and then disappearing as one moves their cursor around.

One additional idea to keep track on the favourite topics is to use the widget function in the user profile page. However, in that case they are public anyone to see (some examples are shown in my profile).

thanks guys !

to be honoust: I am in ICT and not completely "unknown" but permalink is not an very efficient way of storing favourite threads; neither is copying and documenting the url of a thread. It works, yes, but could be improved.

Let me ask the moderator if this forum for an enhancement request to Hoop.La and have a "add to favourites" option -

not a bifg issue, but it would make life a bit easier here :-)

Don't hold your breath..................Hoopless have been buggering around with this Forum for years now, and it gets worse every time they frigg about.

As for actually listenning to the USERS of the forum...........I don't think Hoopless are aware that there is such a thing as a USER.

Cheers
