Anyway to turn off the front panel buttons on a Uniti?

Posted by: DMcNamara on 27 November 2012

Basically I just want to use the IR remote or n-Stream. Why?

Well, the 14 month old has discovered the tactile joy that is the Uniti panel buttons. And, apparently, she likes it loud.

The Uniti location is what it is so relocation is not an option.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Thanks!

I guess disable is a actually the correct word. Dan

Hmmmm, a child lock for the Uniti... Common on Washing Machines, but I've not seen one on a Hi Fi.  You could try the low tech approach and make some kind of shield to fit over the front panel to keep little fingers away?

Yes. The shield. Thought about that but am afraid it would present a challenge rather than a deterrent.

I'll be giving it a try in any case.

Just paint pictures of vegetables on it... Enough to deter most 14 month olds...

Could always turn it off when not in use.......I know, I know, anathema!

But it's an idea.

Could be worse, she could learn how to open the CD drawer!!

Put it in an enclosure with a hinged front cover.

I like this one best!

Back to serious. How about just turning off the illumination of the front panel. I know that this can be done.  Maybe she will loose interest then.

Don't have the old photos to hand, but I used to have an unfolded playpen as the world's biggest fire guard to keep curious toddlers away. A few years later and my 5 year old can start source of choice (Cable, DVD or Wii) select same on AV amp, make sure 252 is set to AV and turn on the TV! I do still leave the grills on my speakers though, even adults struggle to not poke at drive units. If you can't disable the front controls then setting max volume to avoid speaker blow out and hearing loss seems a good idea.

Set Max Volume is the solution.

Then around 4 years old they start being able to control the system.
