Clunky N Stream??

Posted by: Plant Pot on 29 November 2012

I just wondered if anyone else found Nstream quite clunky and unpredictable. I have a QNAP NAS using Twonky to stream to my ND5 XS. Just sat down for a nice listen and I can't find any music - the albums are there they're all empty according to NStream. This has happened before and seems to fix itself - but it's incredibly frustrating when one's anticipating a serious listening session....

I've just restarted the server and now it says "server unavailable". I think and hope that Twonky is the weak link but I have no idea how to change it..

Can't help wondering if I should have gone for the Ndac with my existing Sonos - which had a cast iron interface.

Cast iron system, but no hi-res ... if that doesn't matter then it is very very good.

A bit like the new Apple remote .. click update and that is it ... just works looks great

I don't think it's nStream's fault, but uPnP can be a bit 'clunky' at times - so many moving parts with different software developers having subtlety different interpretations of the standards. Twonky does seem more troublesome that other uPnP servers, so I picked Asset. Needs a Windows server, so another box required, but it's been rock solid for me.

+1 for Sonos It doesn't give huge amounts away (to me) to my CDX2.2/XPS2 into 252/300 and the usability is fabulous. Still do CD when I get a chance for serious listening though.

Do you have the nDAC in your system Max? Doesn't show in your profile. Great upgrade for the CDX2.2 and Sonos too of course.

+1 for Asset. It and n-Stream have been rock solid for me for a couple of years. Cheers Ian
