RIP Dave

Dave Brubeck has just died. Heart failure, aged 91.

One of the last of the jazz greats. Only Sonny R, Ornette and a very few others left.

Off to listen to a load of DB albums...

Shame, Dave is one of the few jazz people I listen to.

just heard this.

trully original jazz artist. especially on verycreative use of creative time signatures, and not just on 'Take Five'

'rest' in peace sounds like pun for someone who also used 'rests' in his music oh so creatively.

but at 91, i guess its appropriate to say 'enjoy' your rest, Dave...

Sad news indeed. Agree with Ken, 91 years is quite the life.

Just watched an interview with George Wein, long time organizer of the Newport Jazz Festival, and a close friend Of Brubeck.  Sounds like he was a truly nice man, and of course, universally respected as a consummate jazz professional.

RIP Dave, and thanks for all the cool records!

PS - Check out his "Jazz Impressions of..." albums.  New York.  Japan.  Eurasia.  Great stuff!

My father told me about seeing Brubeck live at Michigan State University way back during the old college tours.  The first Brubeck I ever bought was their double live LP at Carnegie Hall and it blew me away.  The sonics are amazing on it, too by the way.  I also have the Jazz Impressions albums for Japan and New York (on CD), and both of those are great.  I played all of those when I heard he had passed.
