What the Hell is Going on in This Cover Photo?

As best I can tell, she doesn't really look like that...so for the love of all things holy, why? It is creeping me out.
This is her....
I agree it's very odd and rather disturbing, but with David Byrne involved I guess that's the intention.
That's seriously creepy
David Byrne has been photoshopped as well. Even his chin and jaw aren't that pronounced. It's obviously been done for artistic effect.
Interesting art direction; make her swallow a coathanger and give him a pair of buttocks on his chin. A look that can hardly fail to catch on in 2013?

You're right, but DB's enhancements are just exaggerations. Hers is a serious disfigurement. I guess it has us talking about it - mission accomplished?

Here is the answer to the question.....
Yes! She's eating one regular-sized piece and one of those mini-sized pieces at the same time.
I read that they wore prosthetics for the photoshoot.
Apparently it is intended as a play on beauty and the beast, but I agree it is pretty creepy.
David
What's the album like? Is it better than the cover.
regards Graham.
Stumbled across a couple of photos quite by chance. Yesterday I was listening to a program on radio 4 concerning the life/works of Jean Cocteau. It's on the iplayer and worth a listen.
I was interested in the fact he was a friend of Edith Piaf and that they both died on the same day, plus we where try to recollect if Cocteau was depicted in La vie en rose. While on Wiki I looked at the link to "la belle et la bete" remembering David had mentioned the connection to the CD.
Clicking the link to actor who played the beast, Jean Marais, the following photo is displayed.
Altavisted "Josette Day photo" the actress who played la belle, this photo jumps out of the page.
The prosthetics, hair style and pose used on the album cover shot are obviously intended to mimic these photos.
A connection to the actress/actor who played "la belle et la bete", esoteric to say the least.
