Naim Hi-def song not full ?
Posted by: AbsoluteMusic on 10 December 2012
To test my brand new NDX i decided to download a Hi-Def file on the Naim Shop (Antonio Forcione and Sabina....).
Download was fine but on my NDX each song is cut before end, like if the end part was missing in the record ?
Is it a file issue or is NDX missing the last part ?
Tks
Phil
Hi Phil
I would hazard a guess that both the files and NDX are fine, more likely the problem is how they are being served to the NDX.
Where are the files and how are you controlling/selecting the music, do normal res files play correctly? Is your network wired or wireless? What server are you using? Are you referring to the 24/192 album? And out of interest what file format are you using?
So many questions.
Peter
Hi Peter.
The Hi-Res file was downloaded with the Naim Label download manager tool (on my mac). Then Uploaded on my iTunes (with the itune lib stored on my Synology Nas). file format is Alac
Asking the NDX to play was done using nstream app on my iPad. (NDX wired)
Did i missed something ?
PS : All cd ripped (aac/aif) or Web (mp3,...) music stored on my NAS are OK. / my NAS "Music" folder is also visible on the Nstream...so can select the music directy on it or using Artiste, artiste/album,..... on the Nstream
Hi Phil
Sorry not going to be of any use to you on this one, I don’t use any Apple products nor do I use wireless, so no knowledge of n-stream.
I am surprised on one else has offered suggestions as you seem to have a fairly standard setup I would have thought.
Best of luck, hope you find a solution very soon.
Peter
Can you play the whole track using Itunes on the Mac?
Claus
Hi Claus
Very good suggestion, and the answer is YES, if played on my mac the track is correct....till the end so dont know what is causing this on my naim setup
The format of the file is m4a.
Test done so far :
1) Re-index the track on the Synology but not change. 1/10 is missing on each Hi-def tracks
2) Deactivation of the server multimedia/transcoder function on the NAS but no change as well.
On the Mac the track is 5.47 long (Vision of Antonio Forcione and Sabina / Meet me in London) but on nstream it is written 3:52 ? same gap on the other Track !
I would ask Naim support, since the forum has run out of ideas.
This sounds like a synchronisation or handshaking issue between the uPnP server, nStream and the NDX. The NDX will buffer a few seconds of audio, so is in effect a little behind where the server thinks it is currently playing. If the instruction to start the next track comes once the server has 'served' the previous track, it will interrupt the end and start playing too soon. It would take someone with a network sniffer monitoring the exact interaction between all 3 components to get any further than my theory, so your best bet is Naim support to see if they have seen anything similar. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Dear Claus and DaveBk
I also made a test with another router => Same result
Also tried to read the track from the Usb port (front of the NDX) but format (m4a) could not be access by the NDX (thought that usb was allowed 192 tracks too.! )
So mail send to Naim asking for support.
Hope it's not a DOA Dac on my NDX
Dear all
Just to share my experience :
Made a big confusion by Mixing the extension (m4p, Wav,.....) and the Quality of track (320, 24/192, .....)
so the short version is that the NDX could :
- m4a till 320
- wav till 24/192
Made a conversion of some of my m4a 24/192 to Wav 24/192 (file bigger on wav ??) => just perfect, now working on the NDX (both Upnp and USB)
So the point will be that 192 track need to be converted to wav on iTunes.. so should stop the auto import of the "Naim Label Download Manager" on iTunes otherwise iTunes will translate them on m4a
Tks a lot Marcobb for your support
