2112

You would be forgiven for thinking that I only listen to Rush.

As we know, the catalogue was remastered last year and rendered in 24/96. This is a contentious point and not confined to the Rush catalogue. However, in fairness to Warner, Moving Pictures was a HiRes success (or was it just the remaster - I don't believe so) and the 24/96 releases packaged in the otherwise dismal Sector box sets are strong. In my opinion (in my ears, system and room) they surpass the best previously available on CD.

The drip feed of 24/96 has started with 2112. A deluxe edition (like Moving Pictures) is due for release in early 2013 which will include 24/96 in stereo and 5.1 on a second DVD or BluRay. It might be rubbish but their output so far has encouraged me to pre order. I expect the others will be along at regular intervals and HDTracks will offer the download next year, as was the case for Moving Pictures.

I could really do with another copy of 2112, NOT!

As great an album that it is , enough is enough.

I'll probably buy it though.

Ah! You're getting old. Come on. One more time. You can do it.

Late edit.

Can't comment on the digital credentials. But I can say confidently that according to my ears the 24/96 stereo effort sounds musically good. The levels appear to have been jacked up but it isn't saturated and it doesn't clip. No big leap forward from the CD but like Signals, there seems to be a better flow with somewhat more detail and space. Definitely not a dud and definitely not the Mk2 version. So that's all good in my book. I'd take this any day over the Hi Res Clockwork Angels because the later is a brick walled mess.

I've just seen Linn are selling the 24/96 stereo as an £18 download. Very very naughty. You can get the DVA-A with all the mixes and remastered CD in a box set for £13.

I must say, that's put me off Linn records not a little.
