Switching inputs on NDS
Posted by: AMA on 12 December 2012
I use nDAC for music and movies.
One input is linked to digital streamer via DC1 and the other one is linked to DVD player via toslink.
I switch between the inputs on the fly with NARCOM -- very easy.
Will it be the same easy with NDS?
I do the same, except using nStream to switch inputs. Works fine for me on the NDS, with the Bluray player via Toslink on Digital 3 input.
Dave, can you switch NDS inputs with NARCOM?
I don't have a Narcom, but I can't imagine any reason why not. Someone here must know for sure.
Dave, it should come along with your 252 -- check up your old box.
You may find it very comfy to control the volume, mute and switch the channels with one remote.
Besides I believe you can use FF/RW feature on remote to trace the track.
Obviously you can do all the same with nStream but not the same elegant way.
Except 252 volume control, I guess.
AMA, I use a Logitech universal remote and programmed it based on predefined configs for the Naim kit. I use a 'system automation' cable from the NDS to the 252, so can control it from the NDS - works well. The NDS comes with a new remote, but I've not bothered to check what the input select function does. I'll dig them out of a drawer and have a play tomorrow if I get a moment.
I don't believe the Narcom can be used to control the NDS. Only the supplied remote which has various input select.
But then again I could be wrong and it don't work for me!
I didn't realize that NDS is shipped with a new remote.
Can it change the volume on Naim pre-amps?

Can it change the volume on Naim pre-amps?
Yes it can change the volume on naim pre-amps without the need for a system automation cable.
With the cable in place then you can also adjust the pre-amp volume with nStream. Both methods work really well.
Thanks for that gav. Had me worried there...that would have been another possible strike against the NDS for me! I have my TV going into the DAC along with my SBT.
I love the way the DAC is controlled with the 7-0 inputs on the Naim remotes - so easy as AMA mentioned.
I checked the NDS Manual and I do like the look of the new remote !
It's like a Narcom in XXI century ![]()
I personally need only three buttons on it...
