Surely, surely, surely...

By now even the lawmakers should think it must be time to remove guns from private ownership in the U.S.? I mean big time clampdown, hand them in amnesty type thing, then boof, that's it, illegal to have firearms anywhere other than locked down shooting clubs/hunting parks if they really feel the need for them.
I have no doubt that this is a massively complex problem, several of the contributing parts I won't even have imagined.
This particular tragedy could happen anywhere on the planet - not just USA. I'm almost inclined to regard it as a one off. Almost. The thing is that because of the proliferation of gun ownership in the states, in this case the parent had a military assault rifle, if someone does flip, the liklihood of them having access to lethal weapons seems much greater than other countries.
What really strikes me coming out of this tragic story, is the sheer scale of gun crime in USA. Surely something has got to give? Now is probably not the time for a balanced solution to be tabled but serious reviews need to be kicked off with a longer term aim of much much tighter controls on gun ownership and storage.
Can only but hope.

I can't believe I find myself siding with Piers Morgan. Oh the humanity...

"You're an unbelievably stupid man, aren't you?" Mr Morgan asked him during the heated debate.
I loved this line....

The name of the Gun society bloke was pretty apt too...

I agree with Morgan.
I can't see him being deported, even if he is attacking the Second Ammendment. Democracy would be dealt a near fatal blow.

I know Jamie - it's terrible. If he is deported I'm hoping they don't deport him back here!
The interesting/ironic thing about the petition is that alleges Morgan "is engaged in a hostile attack against the US Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment".
But isn't the desire to deport a man for speaking his mind a breach of the First Amendment? Is the right not to be criticised for being a gun nut more important than the right to free speech?
Maybe our American cousins can enlighten me?
There is a petition in the US to deport Piers which has attracted about 75,000 votes and, surprisingly, a counter petition not to deport him which has, unsurprisingly, attracted about 6000 votes. If you don't want him back in the UK I suggest you start canvassing for votes for the counter petition.
