UQ and QNAP + MIssion 70 MkII speakers
Posted by: living in lancs yearning for yorks on 21 December 2012
It's only taken me just under three months to get to this stage (am not good with technology) but I finally seem (note the caution) to have managed to got to a point where I can rip my CDs, get them onto the QNAP and listen to them through the UQ.
Am using Airport Extreme as router, wired to QNAP. Ripping with dbpoweramp (located in Windows / Parallels on my MacBook Air) which worked OK once I told it to prioritise the airdrive in Windows
Very many thanks to fixedwheel who provided me (a technical eejit) with invaluable (remote) assistance getting the QNAP up and running.
Anyway, just wanted to post a quick 'flippin eck it sounds gorgeous' comment - just listened to Antonio Forcione Quartet Night Passage (one of my faves) and the cello sounds really luuuuurvely
And that's despite the speakers just sitting on a door previously used as a desk (the UQ and QNAP are just sitting on wooden shelf too, so not ideal) - will get some wall brackets but want to decide on speakers first. Will try nSats (will pinch temporarily from nVi system downstairs - if really good will maybe hunt around to buy a pair and get the wall brackets). Tempted to try the AE1s as well but that would require purchase of a 250 probably to drive them properly so a bit OTT for a small room!
Just have to rip a few hundred more CDs now...
And then next step will be to save up for an NDS downstairs (the above is all in the study/loft) once I have worked out how to get the streaming downstairs (no cat 5 in the walls - just telephone cable and FM/DAB/TV aerial coaxial)
