2013 F1 Championship.

For the BBC viewers.

Suzi Perry is announced as the replacement for Jake Humphreys.

She is so much better looking.

All they need to do is get rid of Eddie J and I might even watch.

In some sports there are actually some aids in place to even the competition (e.g. drafting system in NHL). In my view it would be more interesting to have more than handful of competitive teams in F1 although I admit that failing tires might not be the right way to achieve this.

McLaren have signed a deal with Honda for the 2015 season for engine & energy recovery systems.

Honda say they are attracted to the new engine format starting 2014 as it aligns with company environmental & advanced technology aspirations.

The new F1 engine spec is 1.6-litre V6 turbocharged with energy recovery & limited to 15,000rpm

McL will use the new V6 Mecedes engine for 2014 season only

It seems that Lotus and Sauber also consider moving into Honda camp.

That'll be hard to take in some quarters around Enstone .......

The Enstone team started under the Benetton name & since 1995 has been Renault engines thru team name changes from Renault to Lotus.

I see in his BBC blog that Lewis struggles with his braking technique in the Mercedes and needs more time and practice. So an extra 1000km in it may have helped with that then...

Talk about dropping yourself in it.

Remarkably, Valtteri Bottas in the Williams will start third tomorrow. It will be interesting to see what he can do in the race — no points for Williams so far this year. Can Valtteri change that and score his first points ever?

Bottas will be a mobile chicane for the first few corners and will be eighth by the start of lap 2.

I'd rather he was first though.

I am afraid you might be right but I still hope he can reach a top 10 finish in the end.

A bit more like the good old days tonight! G

Some good actual racing at last. Shame Sebastian V spoilt it.

I wasn't far out with my Bottas guess!

Good race, with real pace being shown by the fast guys.

I think some heads will soon be rolling at Woking....Too poor for too long now and today I think represented nails in coffins for some.

That's what happens when you invest millions in a spanking HQ and forget the core product. One of my closest friends worked on that building and the amount spent was beyond belief. G

Sadly, a marshal was killed during Sunday's race. The un-named marshal slipped during the recovery of Gutierrez's car, and was then crushed by the recoverery crane.

That's three marshals killed since 2000.

A bit of history. "Jose Froilan Gonzalez, the first man to win a world championship Formula 1 race for Ferrari, has died at the age of 90."

Thoughts going out to Murray Walker. He has been diagnosed with cancer in his lymphatic system, but they've caught it early.

Get well soon Murray. Wishing him a "speedy" recovery.

I found this video a nice distraction. The 1989 Estoril GP, onboard camera, Berger, the full race, and no commentary. And yes, I did skip through! http://youtu.be/A4CX6-eGXWU

So Mercedes were guilty-ish , the FIA guilty-ish.

A fair result I recon

My take is its all a bit of a grey area & maybe some teams have done something similar in the past.

- Mercedes seem to have pushed the envelope - maybe, but it was "a Pirelli test" request - wasn't it  (?)

- How do Pirelli test 2014 spec tyres - maybe this is the part that needs some better regulated do's & don'ts

It is hard to tell how much and what advantage Mercedes actually gained. The verdict anyhow was only a slap on the wrist i.e. you naughty boys — don't do it again.

Mark Webber has announced he is leaving F1 at the end of 2013 & will join Porsche's new sportscar program which includes Le Mans 24 Hour.

Kimi Raikkonen is rumoured as favourite to replace him

Posted on: 27 June 2013 by osprey

This was kind of expected. His body language has shown already awhile that he had understood that it is never going to happen for him (the championship that is) which is pity since after all at one time he was the next wonder boy.

There are indeed rumours about Kimi but I am not so sure that he and Sebastian are able fit into same team. However, it will be interesting to see what happens.

Looking forward to seeing the boys in action tomorrow at Silverstone. Going to get there early after the underwater car parking last year but the forecast is good for Staurday and Sunday. Could this be the last time the V8s will make the ground shake? I seem to remember the engine note in the turbo era was somewhat subdued. Martin

I saw the turbo cars a few times, and they were loud, barrel-chested sounding cars. Mind you, 900-1000bhp always will do.

The V8 and V10 screamers bored me after a while. I want 'different' sounds, not 20 odd cars sounding exactly the same. I suppose those days have long gone.
