New Superuniti!

Posted by: Roman Kozyrev on 21 December 2012

Oh! What a feeling to await to lay my hands over brand new Superuniti tomorrow! Can't wait the moment to slip my credit card and grab the box. Meanwhile, what would be reasonable to check out at retailers place to be sure that everything is ok with my device? Please advise those who passed through this process recently !

Roman: Congrats on your SU investment which I feel sure will provide hours and hours of pure enjoyment! I trusted my dealer and everything that you need to get going should be in the box (except a pair of speakers and NACA5). I use Naim's NACA5 cable (at least 3.5 m but I'm using 5.5m). You will find that the SU is pretty much plug and play, assuming your network is running ok. Let us know how you get along!

Congratulations Roman - the SU is a wonderful piece of kit - I used to have a top end olive separates system and I wouldn't go back!

As naimUnT says it's all in the box, even including a wifi aerial. If you have a home network then you should be able to just connect up the SU (preferably by ethernet cable) and it will sort itself out apart from you entering your network password. In the box is only a quick start guide that will get you going. It is worthwhile downloading the full manual from the Naim web site as that will enable you to use the full capabilities including such handy features as input trim.

Of course your dealer should install it for you and ensure it is working in your home but if your experience is anything like mine they won't bother - even though their profit margin is such that they should and some excellent dealers who post on here do. It can't hurt to ask them and maybe shame them into doing it (assuming they are competent with streaming products which is far from a given).

Good luck and have fun playing and listening!

Oh yeah! I've got it. Thanks to everybody for support. SU is still inside the box and have to survive during trip on board of airplane from Munich to St-Petersburg, Russia. I guess I may be the first SU owner in Russia Now will be goal to choose loudspeakers to fit perfectly to my SU. On my list are Sonus Faber Liuto, Opera Quinta, Totem Wind and I'm open to any advise or suggestion from SU Jazz lovers.

OK - I guess even Naim dealer markups are not enough to cover a home install in your case

Good luck again - I'm sure all will be well and be assured that the SU has enough grunt to drive most speakers.

Pev, I should be shy to say that I'm capable to set it up by myself, some network admin experience in the past would help. My next challenge is to choose speakers... Based on my location it's not possible to do a "perfect" test. All I can do is run around with my SU to a different hifi shops and play the same test playlist through different speakers... But all other parts of soundscape will be different: rooms acoustic, cables, and most difficult Os that I shall remember my impressions, all speakers from my list are at different places and I can not order all of them to be delivered for test to my room at the same time. But I'm sure I will survive and do the right choice!

Don't forget to give it a few days to settle down, Roman, before becoming totally euphoric.

Wow! SU is REALLY amazing piece of tech! It weigh about 12 kgs and it give away every gram of it into musical sound! Finally I'm settled with Opera Quinta 2012 model. It was most musical, sounded like perfect couple with SU. I wonder why there's not do much review of these wonderful loudspeakers! Every jazz lover might think about it, but they can play old school rock like Queen or AC/DC with the same timing and response. Bet for them with my credit card and may advise Opera Quinta 2012! Merry Christmas to Everyone and a Happy New 2013!!!

hi roman,

congrats on the new SU, i have one for 3 months now. Had the naim nait 5i and the cd5i before which was nice with Totem Hawk speakers. Excellent sound quality.

But then... i connected the SU. could not believe that my Totem Hawks were the same speakers as i had before. Everything was upgraded a 1000 times.

So be sure to check out those totem winds. they must be even better than my hawks!  real nice!

enjoy!

Finally, I had returned Opera with some regrets... It doest look nice in my room and room acoustic was not right for them as well.. Room is to small for big speakers... Said  goodbye to SF Cremona M, Opera Quita.... said hello to Totem Forest, then goodbye for them.... settled with Totem Hawks... great small floorsatnders, fits physically and acoustically into my room and my music taste! Works great with SU!
