dbpoweramp problems

Posted by: living in lancs yearning for yorks on 24 December 2012

Managed to get dbpoweramp working (on trial basis using Parallels with Windows on my Mac) but am finding that the metadata corrections being chosen by it are very often not correct (and when I make amendments they seem to be ignored) - there is a particular problem with most compilations, but also with (some) more regular albums - some are fine

The major problem is that in n-Stream when using that to play through the UQ some albums are fine while others are split into multiple albums.  I really cannot live with this - it's spoiling the experience badly - and need to find a solution before pressing on with any more ripping

I am wondering if I should

  1. use something other than dbpoweramp - maybe exactaudiocopy, abcde, or something else
  2. use the software created by Dan Gravell (bliss?) to fix any problems created by / left in by whatever ripping software I end up using
  3. really splash out and get a unitiserve on the basis that Naim have created it (at a price of course) to work with Naim streamers so this should create data that will just work

(and Windows is doing my head in as usual...)

Your suggestions / advice would be welcomed!

One last question (for now) - can you stop iTunes from opening up every time a cd is put in when ripping?  I cannot find anything in iTunes preferences to stop that happening and it's a bit irritating to say the least

Have you ticked the 'Prevent auto-run on all CD drives' box in the options window?

I should make it clear that the %A in the string noted above is the Album Artist tag not Artist, therefore you need to make sure you have incuded this tag in the metadata when ripping.  I don't think this tag is automatically added most of the time so you will need to do this by highlighting all tracks, right click, edit metadata and then completing the Album Artist tag before starting the rip.

Alternatively, substitute %a for %A in the string (%a is the Artist tag) but be careful of compilations - with multiple Artists your ripped album will be spread over multiple folders!

I find it best to stick to %A and complete the Album Artist tag with "Various" for compilations, this puts all the compilations in a single folder.  iTunes works in a similar way.

Thanks - most kind.  Might be back if I get stuck again but unable to look at for a couple of weeks now.   Just enjoying the 80-odd albums I have loaded so far!
