A bargain is only a bargain if it's something you need. I hate buying for buying sake because the price is reduced. I'll save my money for something useful, like maybe a NAP500.

Absolutely-NAP500.I traded in my 300 for a used 500 last month and it was the best upgrade I have done .Hope you get your 500 in the not too distant future.

This one is better than any of Tony's entries an the "Joke" thread.

Unless I can source a Canon EOS 5D MKIII at a billy bargain price, I'll be keeping my beer chits in my account for now. I hate crowds, queuing for toilets, queuing to park etc etc. It's hell for me. Tony

I got mine a couple of months back Tony...way cheaper now than when launched, especially if you look around and basically swapped for loads of stuff I put out on ebay!

Your 40d and ef-s lenses will go some to cover it...

Yeah, I've seen them at £1,900 at DigitalRev and about £2,300 in real shops. My 40D with battery grip and the one EF-S lens I have might fetch £400 on a good day, so a few smarties to be earned and stored. Have you used the lens correction built into the camera? Tony

Yep, it finds it automatically when you attach lens. Can disable it if you want in menu.  That said Canon's RAW software and Lightroom does it anyway, so...

I thought the 7D had a high number of menus. 5Diii has menus for its menus...

You may want to check out HDew. Same price for gear as DR but they are at least based here, sell UK models and easy to deal with, phone, email etc.

Jamie,

I've heard Hdew also sell grey market goods which is OK for price but doesn't give you a UK warranty.

I bought my 70-200mm f2.8 IS from a trusted seller on eBay. Yes, it took some courage to press the buy button, but over four years later there've been no problems, and I wasn't expecting any. The same would go for a 5D. Certain makes of lens would worry me though.

Hi Steve, checked it out beforehand with Canon. They will honour normal warranty. If for some reason they don't, Hdew will (they're quite keen on pitching their 'nice to do business with' thing). NB This ain't an ad for Hdew! There are plenty of others...

However, my Christmas present to myself is a new Sigma 35mm. Sigma are distinctly funny about this, so went through 'authorised' UK seller Clifton Cameras, who are often very good on price on 'UK' goods.

Daughter No3 tried to return/swap a down jacket at New Look today. The jacket was a Xmas presant from her aunt but was about 3 sizes too small.

Co policy is not to accept returns or exchange goods until 27th Dec at earliest. Rules galore !

Cheers

Don't judge me for being materialistic. Well. Not until you've walked a mile in my bloody fantastic Gucci suede shoes.

Clifton is a "proper" camera shop indeed. I got my Lumix G3 from them after a decent trial of several different cameras in the street outside the shop. All the cameras had a full charge and an empty memory card which Jessops regularly fail on. Plus they are only 45 minutes from my home.

As for sales I will be returning more than buying!
