Hello everyone,
During these holidays I decided to take charge of an honourable task !
Sorting all my music in my Naim HDX (running on the overall version 1.6d - but I had the same issue when running previous versions). My Naim HDX can play some music from his own HDD and some from my NAS server.
My problem is that I cannot rename a genre.
For instance: 'Sound trac' into 'Soundtrack' or even 'Soundtracks'. When I try to rename it from the HDX web browser interface, it simply freezes for a while and then get back on line but the genre has kept it's previous name.
Presuming it could be a problem generated with a similar genre on the NAS or on my computer, I checked every music library and changed every occurrences of 'Soundtrack' or 'Soundtracks', be it on genre, or artist, or album artist. And to be sure, I also used the HDX web interface to re-assign every existing album with 'Sound trac' genre, into a new genre '_film'.
Now the problem is still there, I cannot create a new genre 'Soundtrack' or even see the old genre anymore.
Does anyone experience the same issue ? and even better, does anyone has a clue on how to solve this ? How can I for instance access the list of every existing genre (be it assigned or not) and modify it if necessary ?
Thanks in advance for your help guys !

Hi Cbr600,
Yes, I did also try to create from the desktop client. But when I rename the new genre named "New Genre" it says "Hard disk player is currently busy. Please try again." And this even if the current album played has no link with the 'Soundtrack' genre at all.

Yvan,
I may be wrong, but from what you wrote, it sounds like you are trying to change the details while the album is playing, hence the busy status.
Have you tried to change details when not playing, and does this work?

Thanks for trying more
, but actually even if nothing is playing on the HDX I got the same issue. Be it on the device itself, through the web browser interface, or into the desktop client...

Hi Yvan,
I encountered the something similar in my early months with the Unitiserve.
My error was trying to change a genre of a track/ album that wasn't actually stored on the US hard drive, but stored on my NAS.
Although the US picks up all music stored on the network I needed to change the metadata on the album/ track locally on the place I had it stored.
I've just had a try using the nServe App on the iPad to create a new Genre on an album stored on the US and that worked fine, which I could then apply to the album.
For info I'm on 1.6d on the Unitiserve and 2.4 on the App.
Could this be it?
Hope it helps.
Cheers
Chris

Thanks for your interest in my problem Chris, but as I mentionned in a previous post, I made sure that I haven't anymore that genre used by any song stored on my NAS or on my computer. So it's not a song location problem unfortunately.

FYI: I just restarted my HDX after shutting down the NAS and my computer. Of course by restarting, the HDX said it was missing some storage disk, but I wanted to check for sure that the problem wasn't at all connected with the NAS or my computer.
Result: same problem, impossible to create my 'Soundtrack' genre ! So I really think it's connected with something into the HDX database.

It's all a bit hazy in my mind as the issue I had was a year and a half ago, but I do remember having no luck at creating new genres via the web interface with the same result as you are describing.
Do you have an iPad/iPhone which you can try editing the Genres on through the App?

I have just checked on my ns01. Using the dtc and going to genres, I can easily rename my soundtrack folder to my soundtrack. You cannot play an album that is in the category, then you will get the busy message.

Hi Chris,
Unfortunately I haven't got an iPad on hand to try.

Hi Claus,
Well, as I mentionned in a post before, I also have this problem when nothing is currently played by the HDX. So I think this message is just a bug from the system that cannot deal with another problem and prompt this message by error. But the description in the message is not actually connected with what's really happening.
Thanks

Yes the busy message seems to be the message you get in all situations where the server is not able to perform an action. Did you try in the dtc to rename going through the edit menu, or faster using the f2 key when you are on the category?
