2 days off in the company of Mrs W. We don't do Xmas (not least because she's Jewish).

We ask family to give a gift to a charity of our choosing in lieu of a present, and do the same ourselves. I can buy my own socks!

I had already received my "big" pressie a NAC 52. A CD, Olympic DVD, shirt and a pair of Levis finished off my gifts.

Two cookery and one Art book, socks, a jumper that doesn't fit and some fudge. Plus an LP my missus intercepted when it was delivered just before Xmas.

To be fair though, I always insist that I don't like lavish presents. Xmas, for me is spending time with my kids and the grandchildren.

Listening to music comes a poor second at this time of year. There's plenty of time for that.

I have enough socks and hankies to supply the whole of surrey. What we have done for several years now is spoil the grandaughter and that is it. We buy for nobody else, and look upon christmas as being for kids.
If her indoors wants something she goes out and buys it and i do the same.

What i used to do with a close friend of mine was to buy each other the naffest present we could find. Things like a tin of bake beans with a 2003 sell by date or one of those clear plastic balls that you shake and you get snow, but we didnt even do that this year.

"Reinventing Fire", by Amory Lovins.  Very cool!

We had our "Xmas" day on 25th November in Cornwall, when my middle daughter and family came over from Canada.

That was our "big" prezzie. The fact we hired a cottage in Cornwall for a week for all 10 of us (3 daughters and their hubbies/grandchildren) simply made it a fantastic "Xmas".

25th Dec brought a new toothbrush and a dozen bottles of decent port/red-wine - bliss.

Cheers
