Interesting read, David. A bit sad. I've read that many artists in the early rock period, especially black singers in America, were not treated fairly by their labels regarding royalties. I had always associated "Rescue Me" with Aretha Franklin.

John Lennon was a fan of Fontella Bass and 'Rescue Me' was on his juke box. This was bought in 1965 and sold in 1989. It's a great track and save for her troubles with Chess she could and should have been more successful. Great voice, sad loss.
