The Forum Ranking System

Posted by: Don Atkinson on 31 December 2012

The Forum Ranking system is a mystery to us all, including Richard.

Hoopless acknowledged back in February 2011 that the point scoring system was a secret. But they failed to mention that the ranking (#1, #2, #3 etc) isn’t directly related to the community points (132,013;  110,945;  67,574 etc). There are plenty of anomalies.

I have plotted the Points (Y axis) against Rank (X axis) for the first 25 members (ok #22 is omitted for obvious reasons) and there are some significant anomalies.

BigH is #1, but there are a few people at #0 which I presume is a more elevated position in the system.

Kuma has the second largest number of Community Points but is Ranked #6

Richard has noticanly fewer points than Adam but is ranked #5 with Adam a miserable #11 (these rankings will no doubt change over time)

Richard (and Hoopless) considers the Ranking and points system to be “a bit of fun”

Is It ?

Or is it some sinister plot to oust Adam and Kuma ?

If I can figure out how to copy and paste my x/y graph here, I will

Cheers

Don - your expert analysis does lend credence to a conspiratorial influence on the rankings.  I think a tin-foil hat is in order for all of us, but ONLY if it sports a Naim logo.

That way we can tell the true forumites from the Hoopless interlopers!

Had to take a picture and post via flickr.

So if the picture isn't clear in this post, you should be able to hover over it and click to see the original in flickr which hopefully is readable.

This is my first post since the end of July. I have not been logged in or posted since that time but during my period of absence I went from number 3 to number 2. Go figure.

Lontano,

They are preparing you for orbit. Shot out of the Forum like a cork from a bottle. ! This single post of yours could be the final straw.

However, I did notice a slight "reshuffle" a couple of weeks back and in particular, it did seem as if the "non-posters" ie those who keep their heads down low, were moving up the ranks.

I wonder.

Lontano,

I think its all down to Kuma, who dropped from 2nd place to sixth. No o

I went from #32 to #36 in 1 hour,  go figure that

I really don't care,  its only a forum

Problem is this kind of irritation does not do much for Naim's image - assuming a market leading high quality position means everything has to be quality,  hardware, software & public access inhouse stuff like the Naim www AND it needs to be the same in the forum.

Mike,

Since starting this thread, I have dropped down the rankings, having been overtaken by people who haven't posted for the past week !!!! but who nevertheless get meteoric increases in community points.

There's an "inner circle" and

Outcasts..........

Cheers

Oh yeah.

I'm a *has been*. <sigh>

Don't worry kuma - I'm a "never was" - lol!

See Don...the minute you shed light on the "conspiracy" you began to drop in the rankings!

Coincidence?  I should say not!

You're going have to do better than that. I've just posted 3 times in the matter of a couple of minutes and rank remained on 299. 1 post won't get you anywhere.

Didn't realise we where being ranked. I'll have to keep an eye on it, wouldn't like to drop out of the top 300.

Just earned 4 activity points.

Certainly looks like it Kuma, you've obviously upset Hoopless (gawd another drop in ranking for using that word, no doubt) or upset Adam big-time. Keep hanging in there, i'm sure Richard will come to your rescue if there's ever a risk of you being "expelled"

Cheers

Kuma's problem is he has some very dodgy speakers and is high on the list for deportation to an obscure place north of Hadrian's Wall

Despite hardly ever posting here these days I seem to be at #83, well ahead of Fatcat....my New Years resolution is to get to 15,083......

I'm at 350  mostly for whining about the nait xs, now my favorite all time amp, so don't read too much into the rankings..

When Hopeless took over the Forum 2 years ago they said the points system was "secret". They didn't make it clear that the Ranking System is unrelated to the Community Points System. They claimed it was just a bit of fun, so were going to leave the function "switched on". Having seen both systems in action now, I have come to the following preliminary conclusions :

"secret" means even Hopleless don't know what's going on and have no control of the function

leaving the function "switched on" is a euphamism for "Hopless don't know how to switch it off"

But it is a bit of a laugh  ..........or it would be if only that paranoid feeling would creep away !!

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the forum rating is and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

I think Hopeless' policy is, "If we told you, then we'd have to kill you."
