HDX advice

Happy new year to all!

I'd know if is better to leave my HDX (with 555PS) always power on or isn't necessary.

I leave the 555PS always on.

Thanks.

Mine on at all times as the power down and up cycle is quite lengthy.  G

Ditto

Always leave the full system on, including the HDX and 555DR

I put my HDX into standby mode when not in use. The reason? To reduce degradation of the touchscreen. The HDX is still powered. I also put my nVi into standby mode for the same reason.

My DAC, XPS and SN remain powered at all times.

My touch screen display turns off after about 30 seconds.  I leave the HDX on all of the time.  My only concern is the hard drives - I don't know if they go to sleep after a period of time or not.

You Live and Learn!!

I didn't know there were such default screen settings.

Thanks Peter

I'd appreciate a steer on how to turn the screen off. I can only enable a screen saver. I'd love to be able to switch the screen off.

Thanks to all. Also my concern is for the hard drive (2 TB). Isn't possible to have reliable informations from Naim?

Hi Harry,

Tap home on HDX display then system then system settings tap display settings tap front display backlight and scroll through 1,5,15,30, disable on each tap. Hope I've explained ok. Is explained in HDX manual.

Best wishes

Bill

Thank you Bill. I will look into that.

Having RTFM and gone through this on my HDX, it is not possible to switch off the display. I have back lighting disabled and screen saver comes on after one minute, but I can't switch the display off - to a blank screen.

Hi Harry,

Sorry you did not crack it! In display settings tap front display backlight. Tap change at the bottom left and this scrolls through 1, 5,15, 30 minute delay and disable. When you have reached disable tap save and this sshould work. This I hope is a better explanation.

Cheers

If you have "Disabled" the backlight timeout then the backlight will always remain on...

Best Regards

Hi All,

Actually no - the entry you are referring to is the Display Backlight Timeout ... the amount of time the display is on after last being touched before it turns off ... disabling that will disable the timeout and so will leave the display on permanently...

Cheers

The primary drive is never allowed to sleep - spinning the drive up and down imposes greater wear on the drives than allowing them to remain powered. The backup drive in a two drive machine is spun up for backups and is then shut down again.

In this way the two drives are subjected to different usage patters so as to try to ensure that they are unlikely to fail at the same time.
