Well, I've studied the HDX manual 4.8.4 and I'm none the wiser to this simple question:
Before starting to set up a backup through the HDX menu system do I first need to set up a folder on the NAS called HDX Backup or some such.....or do I do that all through the HDX?

Just to try to be clear.
First you need to make a share active, then you take any of the active shares and tell the server to use it as a backup, either on the screen on the hdx or the dtc in the list of network shares. Finally you can go to the backup manager and now the share that has been set as a backup location is in the list of locations the server will accept as backup location. It is first simple when you have tried it!
