Motorbike photos

Hopefully used by interested bikers of the leather clad type (rather than the Lycra), no offence.
Here goes with an earlier bike I used, but now sold on
What about the Stag ??? leaked more oil than a ........... a Triumph
Funny how oil leaks were synonymous with that brand name
That engine was a classic how not to design an engine, British engineering at its worst .
The engine was an iron block & ally heads & unless the right type & mix of antifreeze was used, electrolytic corrosion made the engine disappear.
It over heated at the drop of a hat because the water pump was above the block & airlocks were next to oil leaks in popularity stakes, dry pump – failed pump.
Over heated engine caused the different engine materials to expand at different rates, & guess what ?? – yup head gaskets
The timing chains lasted as long a snow ball – hark do I hear the clatter of valves on pistons
You guessed it, I owned one, bought it cheap was its only saving grace
(I must have had a youthful penile fantasy with "Stag")
Sold ASAP after I spend more money on repairs than I bought it for.
Thats why it was affectionately known as the "snag", still a good name though !
Other big problem they had was with the injector pumps, as I recall
All this Triumph talk!
They had a clever advertising product placement though, when the Authorised Version of the Holy Bible mentions them:
"And the sound of the Triumph came roaring up the valley."

Definitely the back end of a Vauxhall. Don't know about the red car. Fait?
OK. I'll play.
BSA A10 built from boxes of bits. I don't go in for bikes in my dotage. I got it out of my system long ago. Happy days.
Harry,
Love the Beezer, and the hair! ...

That's a great photo Harry, real sense of old days from it. anyone recognise what the car is in the background?
A Rover P6 - 2000, 2200, or 3500 ...

Redmires,
I have spent many a time in the wood head / snake area.
My youth was spent in the Sheffield / stocksbridge area and done much biking around there.
Beautiful part of the world. Also around froggits ? Etc
Small world. I lived in Penistone for a few years and now on the edge of Sheffield, whence my forum name comes from (Redmires resevoirs).
OK. I'll play.

No helmet - just before my time. I never had the pleasure of the wind blowing through my hair.
Looking at this photo and back through my own makes me realise how much the photo dyes have faded. Picasa is good for correcting scanned photos but it's time I started scanning my photo collection before they fade to grey ....
The other bike which I still have is a 1986 Honda CB100N which I bought in 1992.
I suppose that picture could be anywhere but it looks so much like my stomping ground that it's uncanny. Snake Pass / Woodhead Pass area ????

I'm fairly sure this was taken from Walker Edge overlooking Broomhead Resevoir, which as you say is just a stone throw from Stocksbridge.
After the CX500, came the Kawasaki GT550.
Before a winter rebuild.
After
And then came the bigger brother, the Kawasaki GTR. I loved this bike, one of my favourites that took me all over Europe.
Not a great photo, taken in The Alps, but reminds me of a time when I used to be a serious biker.
Steve, thanks for the history update on beezers.
BTW, what s a Suzuki kettle ? Is it the waterooled ? 850?
A Suzuki 'Kettle' was a 750cc 3 cylinder watercooled 2 stoke bike with a radiator at the front. It was Suzuki's first big bike. I was a student at the time and would have bought a Norton Commando but I think it was £200 more expensive. The Suzuki was fun but, in retrospect, I wish I could have afforded the Norton. The picture below is not my bike but is the same colour and spec as the one I owned in the '70s.

Fan of the old shaft drives eh?
Nice bikes

Yes steve, that's what I thought you meant. For some reason I remembered it as an 850. Fading memory and all. I seem to think there was an issue with overheating on themiddle cylinder, hence th rad.
That's beautiful. Up there with the original Kawasaki 900 as Japanese design classics.

What about the Suzuki wankel
Maybe not !
One of the best has to be the original green meanie, the Kawasaki H600 triple?
The infamous H500. One of he deadliest bikes ever made. Pure power and the sensation that the frame had a "hinge" in the middle, as it seemed to have a life of its own on corners, as owned by one of my cousins 30+ years ago
That's a great photo Harry, real sense of old days from it. anyone recognise what the car is in the background.
I would say it's a Lancia, possibly a 2000, rather than a Rover.
steve
A mono M/C George should love that?
Re car in the background of Harry's picture.
I was going to say Beta or some such, not being able to se the back a Jenson Interceptor is a possiblity.
I was thinking Lancia. It could be an Interceptor, I don't think it's wide enough but it's hard to tell. The premises behind was a body shop. They used to get all sorts of interesting stuff in there. Don't remember a Jensen but they were a much more common sight in those days, which IIRC was about 1974. Lancias were comparatively thick on the ground too.
Here's mine.
Jason
Jason, nice colour scheme on your bike. Are you happy wiand your Beemer, and do you have similar views to mine on the weight / handling ?
Thanks, I like the colours, it really stands out from the crowd of other GS's on the road.
Yes it's big and heavy but I find it really easy to ride, the centre of gravity for me is really low so combined with the torque roundabouts and corners are a joy.
I had intended to take it off-road but I would be nervous on anything other than gravel tracks.
I used to own an R6, this was too twitchy for me, so am enjoying the big comfy GS now.
Good video mista H. Where you you find these things?
One problem though, how do you do a wheelie ?

Thought it was a 2000 Berlina too. My father just sold his. G
H,
Sounds like you are the same vintage as myself. Long timesince I've heard Phil Reads name, not to mention MV Agusta !
Happy memories.
Curious though, what were you doing in the business, and are you linked to anyone /team of such infamy ?
Just thinking back now, I recall always wanting to own a laverda jota, and drooled over a guzzi le mans. They were the days
