iTunes tech question.

Posted by: BigH47 on 12 January 2013

Using various attempts to set up my server HP proliant 2 x 2Tb drives to work with iTunes and iMac, has resulted in a bit of a mess.

Initially we just attempted to move iTunes to the server location, download failed part way through.

Another attempt by me resulted in another location on the sever having part of my iTunes.

Yet another attempt has now got most album tracks have 3 different locations, the album actually shows tracks 3 times, under one cover.

I have saved all iTunes information on other drives and cleared iMac H/D and all but one location on the server.

What I need to do is get the multiple entries out of the way and point iTunes to the server location, I'll then drag'n drop any missing stuff from saved locations.

Can anyone suggest a way of clearing iTunes or talk me through perhaps dropping iTunes and re installing it?

Is there  anyone who can understand this post and offer any help?

Hi BiH47, I have used the iLounge.com website as a reference for all things iTunes. In particular this article when moving my iTunes library in the past.

Hope this helps.

Absolutely, please read the docs on iLounge, there is a step by step guide on moving iTunes libraries etc ...

I agree with the reference to that article.

unchecking "Keep iTunes Media Files Organized" in Settings/Advanced goes a long way also.

I used to think that. But now I just leave everything to do with file management to iTunes and so far it has worked flawlessly.

I have never unchecked it and have had no problems. Personally I felt that messing with the filing system would potentially open up a messy can of worms. The only things I do is adjust/add some album artwork, adjust some "album artists" for compilations and "artist featuring another artist".
