Hello all,

We spent a lovely day in bristol an discovered 3 very good shops selling lots of vinyl at very good prices. I wish there were more places like that in Surrey my other half thought he had died an gone to vinyl heaven.

and we have our own Hifi show - wouldn't live anywhere else!

PS did he try the local beer - Butcombe or Bath Ales are both excellent?

Several butcombe ales lol. Yeah a beautiful place too. We really liked the wildlife exhibition at the museum. We use rock box an they are good but you could fit about 50 of them in just one of the record shops in Bristol it was huge. One was so big it had a cafe downstairs an you got a discount in the cafe if you bought any music or films. A nice drive up aswell so def going again. Audio t were very friendly up there too.

What part of Surrey do you live in ??

Beanos the UKs largest 2nd hand shop in the UK is now closed, but 101 records and Memory Lane are still going strong. Both in Croydon.

and are you allowed to tell us where these shops were or is that against the forum rules?

For s/h vinyl Plastic Wax, for new Rise in Clifton, sounds like good bye HMV from breaking news on the beeb, not that the Bristol store had any. S/h records in Bath (a stall at the saturday 'farmers' market plus a few s/h CDs and there is more s/h vinyl at a little saturday market opposite the Fine Cheese Company.

Cheers John

You are very lucky that you live near Guildford as you have two excellent places to buy vinyl.

I buy most of my music from People Music in Chapel Street in the town centre. a small and just excellent record store that has a very good selection of new vinyl. Howard the owner, is a charming and very friendly guy and always very helpful. He is a bit of a rock star himself as he used to be the drummer in the band, The Vapors who had the big hit Turning Japanese. His prices are very fair indeed.

Then just up the hill from there is Bens Collector Records. Masses of secondhand stuff - can be a bit  overwhelming looking through it all but lots to choose from and always lots of new stuff coming in.

these two paces will keep you very busy.

More vinyl in Bristol - Head on level 2 of the Mall (used to be Galleries) in the Broadmead has a large selection of new vinyl. There is also a stall in St Nicholas Market I believe.

Hello pev yeah we went to the one in the mall an took a risk on the £3 ones an glad we did as all very good.

Ben has an excellent shop in Guildford.  His model is to have a high turnover of stock at reasonable prices.  Most of it is in the £1-3 range, with a few of the rare LPs going for more.  Needless to say it's popular and a bit of a bunfight, but always fun.  Best get to know him - he's a lovely guy - and then ask him to tip you off every now and then when he gets in a great collection.

He used to have a shop in Farnham too but sold it some years back and it's now 101 Collectors Records.

Is there a record shop still in Farnham ? Please tell I love Farnham an never knew there was one there.

Debs, 101 Collectors Records on West St, close to the University for Creative Arts.
