Transferring Wav Files

Posted by: Howie Friedman on 20 January 2013

This is my first post so I'm sorry if this has already been posted before. How difficult is it to transfer Wav files from one Nas to another with all the metadata and cover art.

Also are rips done with and HDX as good UnitiServe-SSD? I am only concerned about the rips not the play back. I'm thinking of buying an HDX for now and getting a Naim NDS or ND555 (if one is ever developed) in a few years. I don't a have a lot of CD's the HDX will be fine. Not thinking about the ultimate digital source. But only want to rip once.

Thanks Howie

Hi Howie,

transfering files and folders from one NAS to another is just the same as if you were to copy and paste or cut and paste from one directory on your PC to another. Just use your file manager (Explorer on a Windows PC). If you already have an NAS or if you are definetively going to have one, you should stay away from the HDX. You can run your UPnP Server on that NAS amd do te ripping on your PC using Foobar, dbPoweramp or EAC. Thos is much more flexible and a lot cheaper. For playback you could purchase a UnitiQute and be done.

Don't worry about the quality of the rips. They are all the same, na matter which machine they are done on, as long as you use propper software (which the afore mentoined are) and the ripping mode is set to something higher than'standard'. This means that the data is read several times and the results are compared against each other. Only when the data matches from one read to another the data will be considered valid.

If you have a significant volume of data it might be an idea to rysnc or ftp it directly between the nases.
