Cool idea. I don't think they'll get it done in our lifetime, though.

Don't know why he's so keen to breed a new Neanderthal. There are plenty in the wild, at least where I live.

I don't know about you, Winky, but I might actually volunteer to shorten my own lifespan if it would guarantee that I would not have to endure my wife hearing a scraping and clawing at midnight, looking out the bedroom window and seeing that face peering in through the blinds.

I know what you mean, Tripper.  I suppose I am just an anachronistic old fart--no, make that: I am CERTAIN that I am an anachronistic old fart.  But Jesus Christ, I mean, I'm all for diversity and all that, but don't we all have enough trouble not committing genocide among ourselves over the relatively minor differences between our populations, all of whom are of the same species, without bringing back into the picture folks who look (God love 'em and as we say in Texas, "Well bless their little hearts") as though they eat little children trying to get across the bridge to Grandmother's house.  It's not exactly as though, faced with a pitchfork-and-torch-bearing populace, they could just whistle a happy tune and blend in with the crowd. 

And what if the little buggers really did prove to be the dominant species and had some collective religion programmed into them by space aliens during the dark ages and transmitted through the genes and some kind of mind-meld, and what if they didn't think too much of us maggot-infested Catholics, Protestants and Jews!  Sheesh!  I mean, I worry about this stuff.  Don't all of you?????

Research people, not just professors,  are responsible for the unbelievable things the human race has done over its existence   Humans,  maybe even Neanderthals  have been blessed with a brain that allows us to reach out & achieve things that all other species on this planet have to get done thru natural evolution.

Now apart from proving that we can achieve a viable Neanderthal,  it would be nice if these learned professors could find a better way to stop the rest of the human race from breeding like rabbits & natural evolution sending us into self destruction.

Their next article will be "Bloody Neanderthals coming over here, taking our jobs" or "House price crash due to influx of immigrant caveman".

+1 on that. Anyway it seems that there are good reasons why they are not around today. We evolved! Stop messing with nature!

No mention of it on the Harvard website.  The Neanderthals already at the Daily Mail are simply looking to expand their readership by creating more in their likeness.  G

PS I'm not being Neanderthalist.  I know they were not as stupid as the name has been commodified to suggest.
