nSub with NAP500
Posted by: AMA on 24 January 2013
As far as I know nSub has two high-level inputs (L and R).
Can somebody tell me if I can connect nSub to the high output of NAP500?
From the manual:
The negative input and output connections for each channel are common. The mains earth (ground) should always be connected regardless of what other equipment is used in conjunction with Naim power amplifiers. This only grounds the case and the electrostatic screen within the transformer, and is not connected to the signal negative. In order to avoid hum loops, the signal negative of the whole system should be connected to the mains earth (ground) in one place.
Note: Each channel of the NAP 500 is a “bridged” amplifier, so none of the speaker outlet sockets (+ or -) is at earth potential. Avoid connecting mains powered equipment such as electrostatic speakers, sub-woofers and headphone energisers that do not have a floating earth. No plug which is connected directly or indirectly to earth potential should be attached to any speaker outlet (+ or -).
To avoid possible damage I believe Naim's recommendation with the Naim nSub is to connect from the pre-out when using a NAP500. Best ask Naim directly whether setting the nSub to floating signal earth makes it OK to run with the NAP500. Either way, you'll be connecting from the speaker end and not the amp end.
......Best ask Naim directly whether ......
It is difficult to guess how many times you will need to be advised to do this.

Adam, thanks for your advise -- I already got a clear response from Naim on my question in that thread.
This thread raises a different question on a different piece of equipment.
I value the time of Naim people, including customer support.
If my question is simple then I will get a fast response from forum and will not bother Naim.
Otherwise I shall write Naim again.
Richard, thanks -- you were really helpful with this piece of manual.
Hello AMA,
I am really curious why you would need a sub with Exquisite Midi! I used it for a while and a sub would be the last thing that would come to my mind.
It may cause more problems if it is not as quick as the ExM.
Anyway, enjoy your endeavours!

I didn't say I'm going to use it with Kharma Midi Exquisite
I consider adding a sub to Gemme Audio Katana which is two-way horn speakers.
