Patty Andrews - RIP

Posted by: Mike-B on 31 January 2013

Patty Andrews, the last surviving Andrews sister has died 94.

I posted this because most of the older forum readers will have memories of this iconic close harmony swing trio from childhood.

In the 1950 & 60's "the wireless" featured strongly in most homes & programs like Family Favorites & Forces Favorites invariably had at least one Andrews Sister request every week.  I guess it was even more so for our US readers.

But I doubt anyone on this forum has actually seen & heard them live

Well, I have !!!.  My old company had a 50th anniversary bash in Minneapolis in 1988 & Patty & Maxene (Laverne had already passed away) were booked as part of the "nostalgia" floor show.

Magic moments, singing with an excellent band & helped with some backing singers, they for sure had not lost it.

I remember them Mike.

I've got a 78 of East is east and west is west.....   somewhere.

A little bit before my time - I have always liked harmony singing.  But prefer Singers Unlimited or the HiLos.

My mother was a fan from the WW II era. In 1974 I saw the surviving sisters live on Broadway in the play "Over There", Great show. Other cast members just starting their careers included Treat Williams, Marilu Henner  and a kid named John Travolta.
