My earliest or at least a favourite remembrance of a boat:-

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea(Disney 1954) is a favourite film.

Looking at that picture, I'd say it's design is based on a swordfish ?

Yeah, old Czar Nikolas didn't fare too well in military matters, did he?

I think the Normandie was the most beautiful liner ever to sail.

Here she is before the US tool her over:

And here she is after we got done with her:

Hmmm...maybe the French have a reason for not liking US so much after all!

When I was kid, age 12-13 or thereabouts, I somehow developed an interest in military history, and built a lot of complex scale models. For a while there, I was absolutely fascinated by the technology of German tanks and Japanese warships.  The Yamato shown below was the pride of the Japanese fleet, the largest battleship in the world.  But by World War II, the age of battleships had passed, and the war in the Pacific was won by aircraft carriers.

Fortunately, my fascist war-mongering phase was over by age 14...

Afterwards the Captain was heard to say "Well then, I'd like to see you parallel park a thousand-foot long boat in all this ice."
