Not as weird as "A", Philippe Starke's floating toilet-cum-conning-tower inspired yacht-thing.
This looks like a Gerry Anderson creation. Mothership to Stingray perhaps?

More details please Graeme.....Where was it going to/from.....Why did the Captain ever put to sea in the first place.....was the Bar etc smashed to pieces, bet it was ???
Many years ago we came back from Ostende to Dover on the Seacat fast ferry. TBH the Captain should have said NO and cancelled the crossing. We were in the bar trying to have a drink when CRASH the entire rear part of the bar came off the wall, bottles, glasses everything was smashed to bits.

Ok ok I give in. North sea crossing January - Rosyth to Zeebrugge in a passenger & vehicle ferry. I have it on authority from the agent that it was the first time in the ferry's history that it had to turn back due to the treacherous conditions. We were all confined to our rooms by order of the Captain with the children to be strapped in. We had a young family next to us and the kids cried out in fear the whole journey.
Never mind the bar, I think the vehicle deck made interesting viewing on arrival. Sustained fear for that length of time is not good for anyone. We eventually arrived in Bruge at 2:00am and the hotel (Orangerie - highly recommended) could not have been kinder. They kept a roaring fire going for us in the library and gave us complimentary Cognac's. It's the best drink I ever had. G
Here's another picture of the Maltese Falcon at sea. She won the St Barts Bucket that year I believe:
