Can I connect iPad through CCK with the front USB on SuperUniti?

Or need I use a separate DAC in-between first?

You don't need to use the CCK kit - isn't the USB connection on the SuperUniti designed to connect an iOS device directly - just use a standard white Apple 30pin (or Lightening) cable.

Yes I know but this way it only looks for audio files on your iPad or iPhone. It does not take the audio you are playing with for example Spotify and that is a pity. I counted on that to work.

I use a Wadia 171 into Supernait to accomplish this, it works great.

Does anybody know if (and when) Naim is planning to offer a direct solution (airplay or wired connection via front usb) to listen to spotify on a mobile device with Naim's hardware (e.g Uniti 2)?

best regards

Oh well I can't wait for this so I bought a Cambridge ID100. Is use it with a dock extender cable so I have what I want. Too bad NAIM couldn't provide this for us.

What I find disturbing is the absence of NAIM people on this forum. Why don't you answer the questions people have about your (expensive) products ?

Ohh, I like you, you are feisty.

Hi domenico,

This is a forum for Naim customers. Its not a technical briefing room where Naim are on hand to answer all and sundary questions.

If you have a question, its usually best to ask your dealer, or e-mail Naim direct - they are usually very good at answering e-mailed questions.

Well, that's my understanding of the forum/Naim, but i could be wrong.

Cheers

Don

Well Don, I own a SuperUnity and the Ovators 400. That does make me a customer right? And yes I can email them but these are questions many customers have. Don't you think it's better for NAIM to answer these questions here so they don't have to answer the same questions over and over again? NAIM not answering these questions seems arrogant to me and also a bit stupid. They should be happy answering questions from customers spending this kind of money. It's terribly disappointing.

Domenico,

I can understand your approach, but I believe I also understand Naim not being active on the forum. It is obviously a policy of theirs not to get engaged into endless discussions in public. If it was my company, I would probably do the same. Forum discussions can always backfire and will definetely be used agains you eventually. There is always some smartass who will twist the words in your mouth. No company wants this kind of public exposure.

No domenico I don't.

Other members of the forum might well feel inclined to offer their advice to other people's problems and you use this advice at your peril. The forum is a bit like a Junior Common Room, we chat amognst ourselves.

occasionally a member of Naim pops in to answer the odd question, and so do one or two dealers, but to have Naim (or their dealers) at your beck and call on an open forum doesn't strike me as sensible. As JN and PH have also pointed out, there are several ways to obtain answers to your questions.

Obviously Cambridge Audio provide open forum consultations (I have never visited their webbsite so am willing to be corrected on this assumption) and obviously have won your custom as a result. Perhaps Naim will reconsider their position regarding open forum consultations as a result.

Cheers

Don

BTW, we are customers too.

You can buy a simple dock to do this, something like the Pure, where it by-passes the iPod / iPad / iPhone DAC and puts out a digital signal which you can plug into a digital-in on your SN.

USB on the SN, DAC, ND's, etc. are to use the iDevices as a sort of digital store. Simply taking the music from them and by-passing the DAC on the iDevice, essentially same as plugging in a USB drive / stick.

If anyone has ever needed an example of a rhetorical question - would this one do?

Four clicks, one search, a select, copy and paste can get you this :

How do I get Spotify into my product and is there a cure once it's infected?

Spotify is not currently natively supported by your Naim network player (though we are always looking at ways to improve our offerings).

However, you can still enjoy Spotify via your Naim network player by connecting up devices  - including computers, smartphones and tablets – that do support such streaming.

The simplest way to use these services is directly from your PC using the Spotify desktop client.  If your PC has an optical or digital out, you can plug it into one of the digital inputs on your Naim player and enjoy the best audio quality. Alternatively, you can plug your PC’s headphone output into either the 3.5mm audio input (where applicable) or, via a 3.5mm jack-to-twin-RCA cable plugged into one of the audio inputs

We do recognise that using a wired connection can be inconvenient, and there are a number of ways to transmit Spotify from your computer to your Naim network player.  If you use Windows, UPnP servers such as Jamcast have a ‘virtual soundcard’ mode, which can transmit whatever is being played on your computer, and which can then be received by your Naim network player as if it were a music server.

We are not aware of any similar UPnP servers for Mac, and you will therefore need a receiving device such as an Airport Express or Apple TV plugged into one of the optical digital inputs on your player, together withAirfoilsoftware on your Mac, to transmit audio.  Using an Airport Express or Apple TV has the added advantage of making your Naim network player AirPlay-enabled.
