My Bloody Valentine new album released as 24/96
Posted by: James L on 02 February 2013
This album has been recorded as an analogue album. It was recorded on 2 inch 24 track analogue tape and mixed onto half inch analogue tape and mastered with no digital processing involved.
Your choice:
16bit 44.1 K WAV - This is CD quality with no digital compression. i.e. it's exactly like a CD. This format may not be compatible with some devices.
320kbps MP3 - This format is compatible with most devices.
24bit 96 K WAV - This format may not be compatible with some devices.
I had a listen on youtube. They won't be getting my $16. Jut not my cup-of-tea.
Mine neither

thanks for putting this up, i had read some time ago a new album was imminent,, and after 12 months it is here.
what are your first impressions? and what download did you opt for? i am not what you would call a downloader so as yet havent done so, i assume they will all work downloaded to itunes.

iTunes will play any of those formats, you need to set Audio Midi correctly to get the best sound with he high resolution one. Not sure how it will handle artwork though with WAV files, but it will work.

From the listen I had, I don't see there would be much value in a hi-res download. Seems mostly just noise. Perhaps I'm just getting old.
What's the point in recording in analogue and releasing in digital format? Not my cup of tea either.
The main impetus of my original post was really to spotlight the fact that MBV have released in hi-res.
It's still very rare for a contemporary ("alternative") release to be available in hi-res so it's worth supporting. Perhaps gift a hi-res download to a friend!!
The more folks take the hi-res option, the greater the chance we'll see more of the same (fingers crossed).

Good point. But they're still not getting my $16.

Don't worry about the formats....
Caught the tail end of this reviewed on RadioActive88.6 (Wgtn's BFM) today. The jist was that track one picked up where they left off 20 odd years ago through to track 9 whiich had a more now feel (shoegaze-jungle?). So some progression there. Did provoke a good discussion on where a band goes after such long time between drinks .
Not that keen on the shoe gazing stuff, but if you want to hear them more up beat and rocking then this album will do the job.
Jason.
They will be getting 23 pounds from me for the vinyl+CD+down load package. One of my favorite bands. Isn't anything may be the best album of th 90's. Great to see a band like this take sound quality seriously. In my exerience the best digital is a high quality analog recording digitized at the last possible stage. so I am pleased with their approach. The re-issue of Isn't Anything on CD last year included two discs, one remastered from the original analog tape, the other from the original (digital) tape.
It seems to be very difficult to record distorted guitars well especially when done digitally. MBV records really benefit from a well sorted system. This release may even convince me to acquire equipment that can play hi-rez.

I think you are confusing them with Jesus and Mary Chain.
