My NDS/uServe behave as if on "shuffle"

All of a sudden, tracks on a given cd play as if on "shuffle."  Most annoying!  It's happening with every cd I go to play.

Am I overlooking something really simple . . . ??  I did not think that there is a universal 'shuffle' setting, but that's how it's behaving.
