Just wondering if nVi problems were fixed :)

Hello together

Haven't been here in ages. Just been enjoying my gear except for an annoying bug in the nVi.

I know the nVi hasn't been produced in a while, but when it still was, the problem was never fixed.
And with Naim's exceptional costumer support I was just wondering if maybe Naim did fix the issue a lot of users seemed to have: the standby problem

I know there were problems with the displays used. They died pretty early. Mine did as well. Never had it replaced but might in the future, but I thought I'd wait for when the standby issue could be fixed at the same time.

If you put your nVi into standby (as recommended when not in use), it will not wake up again if the standby period was more than 24-48hours.
You always have to use the power switch at the back.

I was just hoping that maybe someone at Naim (or maybe a user) ever found a solution to this problem as a working standby function would be pretty cool :-)

Right now I have mine powered off completely whenever I know I won't be using it for a day or two... which unfortunately isn't that beneficial to the otherwise excellent sound quality :-)

So, any news or help would be outstanding :-)

Mine had the same issue and was resolved with a firmware update that Naim kindly emailed to me.

I tend to use mine only on weekends and it sometimes goes a few weeks between use, and always comes on OK.

I bought it used, great value for money, has saved a lot of space as I use as a tuner and surround sound decoder, feeding my 282/Hicap DR/200 on unity gain for the fronts, using the nVI for centre and rears.

That's great news :-)

Do you by any chance remember which firmware version that might be or might you still have the eMail?

p.s.:
i think i installed the latest one as mentioned here in the faq section (2-16)
but does anybody know if there is a way to check the firmware version once the display has died? ^^
mine suffered from the same problem as others did as well... first individual lines go dead and then the entire display fails.

I got my n-Vi as an ex-demo nearly 2 years ago.  It had just been back to Naim for a service and fitting of a new and more robust display.  Dealer also installed the latest firmware update to address an issue I was having in use of the sub on stereo signal.  The n-Vi has been fine since, save for the occasional need for a re-set.  I've never had the stand-bye problem you've described so my guess is the latest firmware update would solve it.  But if you need a new display anyway I suspect Naim would update the firmware at the same time.

I haven't had mine in for a repair of the display as it costs 260€.
And I didn't want to spend that kind of money unless I was sure the standby issue was fixed.

I had the newest firmware installed according to the FAQ and am currently running the recommended one.

So if the firmware hasn't been updated since the FAQ, then the fix is not the firmware and there still is no fix :-(

The email I had from Naim implied the firmware was different for units with a new display.

This is from the email.

"Note that the Decoder software has not changed since the November 2007 release (0.189.5.6). If the n-Vi is already running this version then only the control software needs updating.

DVc02- 21 as well as an update this disc is required when fitting the new type n-Vi display

n-Vi Update Discs

Version 0.189.5.6/DVc02-21May 2011"

I suggest you contact Naim to establish the situation.  Looking at my email I reported to them that it would only power up/down successfully 3 out of 10 times on average and this resolved my issue.

Best of luck

Richard

thank you for re-checking :-)

the 02-21 is a special firmware version for the new displays.
would be interesting to know if it is otherwise identical to the 02-15.

because others have reported that the new display did not fix their standby problem.
