I have always heard of him but never actually listened to any of his work.. until only just recently i have been playing "Pink Moon" flat out for weeks and its just blow away material.. absolute masterpiece!!  .. can anyone share their knowledge on the other two Albums prior?

They're all great. Would they be as well known without his untimely death (or the VW ad)? Who knows, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying them. I play all three regularly and admit I don't really have a favourite. Northern Sky is probably my favourite track, though.

One thing about Nick's music is his uncanny/unusual phrasing. It is like nothing else you'll hear. His stuff sounds fairly simple until you really listen and place his guitar and vocals in the rhythmic framework of the time signature. Then his brilliance really shines. Many great artists have great phrasing, but few are as remarkable and as quirky as Nick in this respect.

I have the album five leaves left, must refresh my memory of the sound

Hi Groovy,

You discovered a real folk gem. I have Pink Moon and Made To Love Magic, Pink Moon is an English Folk classic, a complete album listen. But I think Winky sums his music very well.....happy listening.

I keep changing my mind about which of the three albums I like best, but the truth is they are all staggeringly good.  Having listened to him since the seventies, it was really great to see him acquire a whole new fanbase as a result of the VW ad.  There is a very good documentary about him called A Ski Too Few if you're interested in learning a bit more about him.

New vinyl of Pink Moon is quite good for a re-issue - wish I could get the 24 bit download to work on the NDX though. It keeps dropping out - still messing with it.

Hi digger,

Where did you purchase your 24 download?

There is a coupon for it in the recent re-release box set of Pink Moon.  You can check it out here:

Fabulous guitar work on that album. Often on my turntable...

Just ordered the Pink Moon reissue. I only found out today that it's an all analogue remaster.

And very good it is...one for the morning I think....

And Bryter Later is due out in March

Discovered that gem in 1970(ish) and loved it ever since. Tortured soul but great voice and lovely guitar playing - interesting style.

If you want to know what a DR upgrade might do then listen to Pink Moon without and then with the upgrade. Shocking difference.

Thanks for the link Digger. Just noticed that the download code you get when buying the album gives access to three of Nick Drake's albums in 24/96. Nice !

I thought they'd fixed the triple album download so that you now only get one. Do you still get all three?

I thought the digital download was for Pink Moon only. It doesn't mention the other albums on the card insert which has the download code. It is not clear though as it says:

1 MP3 of remastered 24/96 albums

2 FLAC of remastered 24/96 albums

3 MP3 of vinyl albums dubbed from disc

I haven't downloaded any files. Has anyone yet?

Steve,

I managed to download the MP3 of the remaster and also of the of the vinyl album.

The only digital sources I have is my PC and iPAD. On my iPAD the MP3 of the vinyl album sounded better than the MP3 remaster......now there is a thing!

Richard,

Was the download just Pink Moon or were the other 2 albums there to download?

Yikes.  This is confusing.

I bought a copy of a newly released 180 gm vinyl Pink Moon on Ebay for like $24 which was much easier.  That's like a buck a minute

Greg,

They have released a single LP version as well as the box set. I know what you mean though, it is a short record but it's a good reissue SQ wise and an original would cost an awful lot more. Just enjoy it. I have paid more for other LPs I haven't liked much.

Someone in Spain is selling a first pressing of Five Leafs Left for a starting bid of $460.

That's like 5 or 6 pounds

Just Pink Moon I think.

Posted on: 20 February 2013 by Steve J

Thanks. That's what I thought. I didn't think they'd be so generous to include all the albums when the others are also being released, even though it's over £30 for the box set.

Just bought the boxset aswell. I have 3 albums on cd an only this one on vinyl so far
