Films you can watch again and again...
Posted by: naim_nymph on 16 February 2013
Do you have any films you find so entertaining you can watch more than once every year?
Any films you enjoy for an annual viewing?
Which films do you like to watch every other year?
Every five years or so?
Which film have you watched the most?
I am a great fan of these cheap, daft and creaky British epics, which most of us of a certain age grew up with. They never fail to raise a smile and when I'm feeling down in the dumps, they act like a kind of comfort blanket. Seen this quintet many, many times:
This one hasn't got Sid in it but is always worth watching. And it has the brilliant Harry H Corbett in it!
I remember watching Carry On Screaming as a nine year old - frightened the hell out of me.
.....do you mind if I smoke?
The only Carry On I have is Carry on Cleo.
...Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in for me!

True Lies - especially the bit with Jamie Lee dancing to John Hiatt's 'Alone In The Dark';
As just posted on another thread, I guess I've watched this one 4 or 5 times, so deserves inclusion here;
This priceless 1960 epic, based on the Stephen Potter "Oneupmanship" books:
As well as Ian Carmichael, the peerlessly wonderful Terry-Thomas, Alastair Sim, Janette Scott, the cast is a who's who of fabulous Brit character actors: Peter Jones, Dennis Price (both outstanding as slippery car salesmen), Jon Le Mesurier, Edward Chapman, Irene Handl, Hattie Jacques, Hugh Paddick, etc etc.
Vintage Michael Caine.
- The Italian Job
- Alfie
The Italian job simply cracks me up time and time again, especially the adlibing.
This wonderful 1959 Boulting Brothers comedy is stuffed full of great moments and classic British class stereotypes.
It also has perhaps the greatest cast in the history of British cinema. Cop a load of this:
Terry-Thomas
Ian Carmichael
Dennis Price
Richard Attenborough
Peter Sellers
Margaret Rutherford
Liz Fraser
Irene Handl
John Le Mesurier
Miles Malleson
Terry Scott
Alun Owen
Kenneth Griffifth
Raymond Huntley
Sam Kydd
Cardew Robinson
Victor Maddern
David Lodge
It also has T-T's best-ever rendition of his famous "absolute shower" catchphrase.
A joy from start to finish.
I tend towards documentaries and not 'movies'. But there are a handful of movies that I can watch over and over again.
1. The Committments- I do not know how many times I have seen this but it probably is in triple digits by now.
2. Clockwork Orange
3. The Infidel
4. The Trip.
5. Priceless (a French movie that is very worth seeking out....it has Audrey Tatou looking her very best).
Danger man - Patrick MaGoohan
The Prisoner - Patrick MaGoohan - Watched many times
Imo one of the finest UK actors - ever?
Chris N
Any John Wayne Western--and none of his other movies.
Oh, and also anything with Bogey in it.
Dumb And Dumber. Cracks me up every time.
No Country For Old Men. Modern day classic western.
Magnolia...something new with every viewing of this classic.
Magnolia...something new with every viewing of this classic.
Soundtrack by Aimee Mann also a plus.
I often travel through Penrith & every time I see the sign I get an urge to watch this film again :-
Babette's Feast, Gabriel Axel (1987)
Even amongst substantial company, this is quite simply my favourite film.
It's kind of human nature....
"Hombre", Paul Newman
