Recording secret tracks.

There is a secret track on Feast of Wire ,by Calexico, on my CDSII it doesn't show in the track list. Inelegantly one can rev play (with a Flash remote).
First track Sunken Waltz shows as 2.28 but this doesn't include the secret track, iTunes shows 1st track at only 2.28. Tracks with secret bits at the end show the lengthened the track time.
There must be other albums with this situation.
Any ideas?
David Gray's (Grey?, can't remember) White Ladder album has something similar. The secret track is before Track 1. To play it (I think I remember correctly) you had to play track 1 then use the fast rewind button to get to the hidden one.
I've never tried the CD in iTunes so I can't say whether you can access it or not.
I'll have a look at the Calexico album when I get home tonight.
Gavin, I'm not sure if it's all editions of FofW.
It's something to do with track 0 which most players or recorders can't access. I did try and read an website explanation , but couldn't find it written in understandable.
Wikipedia says that the hidden Calexico track is in the pregap for Track 1 (index 00).
Here's the link to its entry on pregap (which also links to a list of albums - and there's loads of them)

It suggests EAC can record stuff here - perhaps it can extract stuff too?
XLD might rip it ... Mind you what gives with group/record company trying to hide tracks ... If they don't want us to listen to them then don't stick 'em on the album.
Just off to play Sgt Pepper backwards to hear that song again.
What's the point of doing this ???
Sorry i should have added a smiley ... My LP12 doesn't run backwards. You could possibly do it using some software on the Mac, but don't think I'll bother.
The Wiki stuff on hidden tracks suggested there were some double grooved LPs - and you got different stuff depending on which groove you dropped the needle in. Anyone got one of these? (Or are they incredibly rare?)
IIRC there was a Better Than Ezra album that had a secret track before track 1. I think it was "How Does Your Garden Grow". I worked for Warner Music at the time which is how I know. I have others in my collection but would need to flick through them to recognise the one's that have them.
There are a few though, I remember going through a phase of checking for them.

To my knowledge it was usually the band who asked for these. Usually as a thank you to obsessive fans or to feature a track that was either a novelty/joke or atypical of the album or the band.I think it was very much a case of experimenting with what was possible with CD indexing.
FWIW - Many DVD's have hidden content (known as 'easter eggs') too.

I seem to remember a MPFS record that had 2 grooves on the B side.I didn't own it so can't check.
A flash controller allows Fast Rev play so that you hear the sound at an increased speed.

The only one I owned was the Monty Python Matching Tie and Handkerchief. It was a complete pain in the neck as it was virtually impossible to select which groove you wanted to play. Totally pointless as are today's hidden tracks.
