Streamer servicing ?

Just thinking ahead. Is servicing needed on the Naim N series network players ? Apart from the reservoir caps on the ND5 and NDX (which would get no use anyway if using an external PS). there seems to be little else to do.

This is an interesting question, Naim pre-amps require servicing but at a longer interval (15 years) so I think the answer would depend as you suggest whether an external ps is used? I wonder if this could be stretched further if a DAC is used?

I can see a business case building here to aquire a ps/dac in the future on the basis that servicing costs could be saved, whilst omitting to mention that PS's and Dacs require servicing!

Well I guess after 15 years the decoupling capacitors across the digital circuits might need replacing as their effectiveness might diminish and so digital noise builds up on powerlinres etc.the capacitors in the analogue filters  might change and the i2v resistors might change over time and so add increased distortion. It'd be interesting to know if Naim performed any accelerated ageing tests.
