Mott the Hoople and Mark Knopfler TV Progs

Anyone remember the magnificently monickered Ariel Bender a.k.a. Luther Grosvenor of Mott the Hoople? There's a documentary about the 70's rockers on BBC4 Friday 8th March.

And on BBC4 this coming Sunday (3rd) evening, Mark Lawson talks to Mark Knopfler about his life and career.

Mott the Hoople - one of the best live bands on the early to mid 70's college and Town Hall circuit.

I preferred my MTH pre-Aerial Bender but he did add a rockier edge in their later phase.

I first heard both MTH and one of LG's previous bands (Spooky Tooth) on the excellent "Nice Enough to Eat" sampler from Island in 1969, in fact I think that album probably launched many a vinyl collection for persons of a certain 50's vintage like me.

One for the recorder, thanks JN

Thanks for the heads up. Love Mott The Hoople. Saw them twice on the reunion tour. Yeah of course it was nostalgia but it was brilliant!!!

There is also a programme on Sky Arts where MK talks to the DS bassist about 6 of his guitars.

Great for guitar nerds.
