Albums where the best known track is also the worst

Posted by: Ron Toolsie on 03 March 2013

This was inspired by the Worst Track on DSOTM thread. I got thinking, I have a few albums where the only single or best known track happens to be my least favored one. I was one of the many who voted 'Money' as the least capable track on DSOTM, which is not to say it doesn't belong....choosing a lesser track is like trying to have some sort of Sophies Choice in your children-you never really want to make a choice between them.

But then again I will posit these examples.

Golden Earring-Moontan. My least favorite track is Radar Love.

Linda Rondstadt-Heart Like a Wheel. I almost always skip over You're No Good...the massive single and very best known (?only known) track commercially from that brilliant album.

Led Zep IV. You'll know the track.

Bo-rap on whatever Queen album it's on.

In the case of STH isn't it just overplayed and not necessarily a bad song?

Nirvana,  smells like teen spirit on  Nevermind ,

The most overplayed Nirvana track. I for one always skip that or turn the radio down when it comes on . They didnt really record a lot but there are so many better options.

The band - Pearl Jam (one of my favorite bands).

The album - Ten (one of my favorite albums).

The song - Jeremy.

Dare I say +1 nowadays   Good one, Marou. A staggering good album (even excluding 'Maggie').

that track sums them up for me.

can't really listen to them any more but 30yrs ago ledzep ruled.

King Crimson - Epitaph

Fripp and co subsequently sounded nothing like that track, Islands, Larks, Red, their live improv sets. Soooo much better. Still?

Not sure it's the 'worst', but it's definitely not the best; "I'm not in love" on 10cc's "The Original Soundtrack"
