Simple question re Toslink

Posted by: willie45 on 03 March 2013

This is a very basic question so don't laugh!

I find that the toslink cable going into the back of my Supernait doesn't make a very tight connection. In fact it wobbles all over the place if I finger it. It sounds all right. Is this a normal state of affairs? It is pushed in as far as it will go.

Advice would be great. thanks

The connector end that plug into my nDAC optical terminal also does not make a very tight connection. It fits in well but not consider tight enough. In fact, I can't remember any toslink cables which can fit so tightly as the coaxial or rca cable. Guess it is normal for it to wobble a little after insertion.

On insertion there should be some mild resistance and then a click.

Once inserted the connector will wobble slightly...

TOSLINK doesn't rely on a firm connection because it's not making electrical contact.

Very well said.

Thanks for your help. Seems mine clicks slighty then wobbles. It comes out pretty easily so I was a bit concerned. Maybe all is normal though.

Thanks again

BTW I'm at my work computer, and can't remember my sign-in details but it is me

Hello Willie,

Yes, James summed it up very well. There seems to be some variation between the ends and the sockets for Toslink connections. As long as you hear that click, you should be fine. Just keep an eye on it. Fortunately those wires are not as heavy as the coax or even burndies so you should not expect it to fall out because of the pull
