Synology NAS into an HDX

Posted by: John Burrow on 04 March 2013

I've just set up as NAS for a friend who has an HDX. In my system it worked beautifully with my NDS reading all files through the UPnP setting, so the settings on the Synology must be correct. My friends HDX however is having trouble, the disc station does show up but the HDX cant read whats on it, the HDX will do a scan and display an orange light while doing so but then displays a red light. Sorry for the lack of detail as I'm now not in front of the system, I have tried every setting on the HDX via the desktop client but without much luck. Would anyone have any thoughts?

other thing; just remember that with the NDS you are using the Synology as UPNP server while the HDX will use it only as the Network/Music share.

Just to say that the settings between the two scenarios are different.

All the best

+1  You probably want to turn off the UPnP server on the nas.  I've had some issues where if more than one music server is running on my nas, they don't all work.

And renaming the workgroup to NAIM is one of those things that's essential, but as far as I can tell not documented other than here on the forum.  When I was setting up my Synology nas with shares for my UnitiServe, that piece drove me nuts 'til I read it here.
